What are you working on?
- Genres: Role-playing, MMO
Renderer Studios is a full-cycle game art outsourcing and co-development company with a integral production network and a European commercial base. We partner with developers and publishers worldwide to bring ambitious projects to life — from art production and technical art to full co-development.
We are looking for an Art Director to own the creative direction of cosmetic and LiveOps content for a AAA fantasy MMO.
You will be the creative authority over everything the pipeline ships — a senior seat at the heart of the team, with the approving eye deliberately kept independent of the teams producing the work. You will not be a reviewer buried in raw output: you approve curated work through discipline leads, and your standards define what players see every month.
For which tasks (responsibilities)?
- Own the visual quality bar and creative direction for all cosmetic content — mounts, costumes, pets, housing, weapon and armor styles, VFX, and seasonal collections — so that everything feels native to a beloved, lore-rich fantasy world
- Review and approve concept art and finished assets through per-discipline leads — curated work, not raw output — keeping a high-volume pipeline moving without becoming its bottleneck
- Set and maintain style guides, reference libraries, and approval criteria per asset category, aligned with the client's franchise art direction
- Partner with design on item ideation — shaping what an item is and why it will resonate, before concept work begins
- Give clear, actionable feedback with fast turnarounds — approval latency is a scheduled input to a live release cadence
- Represent creative direction toward the client's franchise and IP-approval stakeholders, and translate their sign-off notes into direction the production teams can execute
- Work with production and technical art so creative intent survives rigging, LODs, performance budgets, and engine integration
What kind of professional are we looking for?
- AAA experience — this is a hard requirement. You have shipped as an Art Director, Associate AD, or principal/lead artist on AAA titles
- Fantasy art in your portfolio — this is a hard requirement. A demonstrable body of fantasy work (characters, creatures, costumes, weapons, environments); this role directs a fantasy IP daily and your portfolio must show you live in that visual language
- Experience directing external or distributed art teams at scale — giving feedback through leads, across time zones, in a structured review pipeline
- Deep knowledge of the full game-art pipeline — concept, modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, VFX — enough to diagnose where quality is lost and fix it at the right stage
- Excellent written and spoken English (B2+); you can defend a creative call to a client and a deadline to a producer
- A stakeholder mindset: comfortable owning the quality bar, presenting to leadership and external partners, and being accountable for outcomes
Nice to Have
- Live-service or MMO experience — cosmetic content, seasonal events, or battle-pass reward tracks (strong plus)
- Experience working within an established franchise style under publisher IP approval loops
- Familiarity with outsourcing workflows, vendor QC gates, and external development
What are the conditions and bonuses?
- Creative authority over the cosmetic and LiveOps content of a AAA fantasy MMO
- A senior seat on the team's leadership trio, with direct influence on how the whole operation runs
- Fully remote work with a flexible schedule and an international team
- Competitive compensation, negotiable based on experience
- Minimum bureaucracy and a great working environment
Apply with your CV and portfolio — the portfolio review comes first.
