Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Elasticsearch Performance team, you will drive optimization and predictability for Elasticsearch in distributed environments. You’ll implement architectural and code-level performance improvements and build AI-assisted tooling to streamline benchmarking. You’ll work with cross-functional peers to ensure scalable, reliable performance across stateful and serverless deployments. This role offers impact on a globally deployed data platform with a strong emphasis on technical excellence and collaboration.

Responsabilidades

- Contribute to core performance engineering initiatives from development to production, delivering impactful optimizations.
- Design and implement architectural and code-level performance improvements.
- Develop foundational performance models and methodologies for distributed systems.
- Support optimization strategies for performance, predictability, and scalability.
- Profile and analyze system behavior to identify bottlenecks in logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL.
- Ensure robust benchmarks and regression detection for stateful and serverless architectures.




- Collaborate with peers to apply performance-focused practices to new features.
- Contribute to automation by building AI-assisted optimization harnesses for profiling, hypothesis testing, and benchmarking.
- Provide technical guidance and peer reviews to engineers to foster technical excellence.

Requisitos principales

- Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
- Understanding of concurrency models and ability to write high-performance, thread-safe, lock-free code.
- Experience with large open-source and enterprise codebases.
- Proven profiling and optimization of distributed systems, including benchmarking tools (e.g., JMH, Rally) and regression detection.
- Solid grasp of distributed systems architecture, including partition tolerance and cluster state propagation in large-scale data stores.
- Experience using AI or advanced tooling to accelerate optimization and automation of benchmarking workflows.
- Ability to collaborate within a team and across functions, with autonomous, proactive, and transparent communication.
