As a Senior Java Developer on the Elasticsearch team, you will advance the Inference API that connects Elasticsearch with ML services, including Elastic's own EIS and third-party providers. You will shape the plugin framework, REST API, and architecture, collaborating across teams to enable semantic search, reranking, and generative AI features. You’ll own integration work, contribute to open source-style contributions, and support on-call incident response. This role offers impact across Elastic Cloud and hosted environments, with a focus on robust, scalable AI-powered data capabilities.

Responsabilidades
- Build and maintain integrations with internal and external inference providers, including schema negotiation and streaming (SSE)
- Contribute to the inference plugin architecture: task settings, chunking strategies, rate limiting, provider configuration
- Review open source contributions and ensure compliance with engineering standards
- Participate in on-call rotation for inference-related incidents
- Write thorough tests: unit tests with ESTest Case, YAML REST integration tests, and rolling upgrades tests
Requisitos principales
- 5+ years of production Java experience in a large codebase
- Strong core Java knowledge, standard library, and concurrency concepts
- Experience designing ergonomic APIs and reasoning about trade-offs
- Proficiency with low-level Java aspects (concurrency, parallelism, classloaders)
- Proven ability to collaborate across functions and teams and to work autonomously in a distributed setting
- Experience applying AI to accelerate development, debugging, and performance optimization
