As the Art Director, you’ll be responsible for the game’s artistic vision and visual quality throughout development. Working alongside the Creative/Game Director and the wider project leadership team, you’ll establish a visual direction that supports the gameplay, storytelling and intended player experience. You’ll translate that vision into clear guidance, shared standards and achievable goals for internal teams and external partners. Through your art leads, you’ll develop a team that understands the direction, contributes ideas and makes confident creative decisions. The role calls for creativity, sound judgement and the ability to bring people together around a shared vision, including when working within the identity and expectations of an established franchise. Responsibilities: Define and develop the game’s artistic vision in partnership with the Creative/Game Director, aligning visual identity with the project’s creative goals. Translate the vision into practical direction through visual pillars, an art bible, references, briefs and quality benchmarks, keeping these useful and consistent throughout development. Guide artistic coherence across characters, environments, lighting, VFX and other visual disciplines, working closely with animation and cinematic leadership. Lead artistic reviews of work in progress and in the playable game, providing clear, actionable feedback and making timely decisions on quality and priorities. Develop and support art leads, delegate ownership and help them grow their teams through constructive feedback, mentoring and clear expectations. Build a team culture where people share ideas, raise concerns and challenge work respectfully. Support recruitment and address development and performance needs alongside the relevant managers. Collaborate with Design, Narrative,
Engineering and Production leadership to ensure artistic decisions support gameplay, readability, storytelling and technical performance. Work with Production and art leads to agree achievable scope, resource needs and milestones, identify risks early and balance artistic ambition with budget and delivery constraints. Partner with technical art leadership to establish workflows and approaches that support visual quality, efficient production and performance on target platforms. Communicate artistic direction to publishing and franchise partners, incorporating agreed feedback while maintaining a coherent vision and respecting the IP’s identity. Guide co-development and outsourcing partners through clear briefs, shared quality standards and consistent reviews. Stay informed about emerging tools and technologies, evaluating where they can improve artistic exploration, visual quality and production workflows. Requirements: Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary game art teams on a shipped AA/AAA title, or a project of comparable scale and complexity, as an Art Director, Associate Art Director or Lead with substantial artistic direction responsibilities. A portfolio or relevant project examples demonstrating artistic judgement, coherent visual direction and the results achieved through your leadership, with your contribution clearly explained. Strong understanding of composition, colour, lighting, form and visual storytelling,
supported by depth of experience in a relevant art discipline. Experience developing an artistic vision and translating it into clear guidance that teams can apply throughout production. Proven ability to build, lead and develop other leads, delegate effectively and give and receive constructive feedback. Clear visual, verbal and written communication, including the ability to explain creative decisions, listen to different perspectives and resolve disagreements constructively. A broad understanding of real-time art production, contemporary game engines and the technical constraints that affect visual quality and performance. Sound production judgement, with the ability to prioritise artistic effort, assess risks and make practical trade-offs in collaboration with other disciplines for the goal of making an amazing game. Experience directing external art teams or co-development partners and maintaining consistency across their work. English proficiency sufficient to lead discussions, present artistic direction and write clear briefs for international teams and partners. Experience working with established franchises, IP holders or publishing approval processes is an advantage. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and value different perspectives and experiences. Our offer: Responsibility for shaping the artistic direction of a AAA project as part of its core leadership team. A collaborative working environment where ideas, constructive feedback and different perspectives are valued. The opportunity to work with experienced artists and developers, sharing knowledge and supporting each other’s growth. Private medical care fully financed by the employer. Fit Profit sports card. Versátil working hours, with core hours of 11:00–16:00. #J-18808-Ljbffr
