Job Description
The DC Electrical Superintendent is responsible for managing the on-site delivery of electrical works during the construction phase of IREN’s next-generation, renewable-powered data center projects. The role ensures that medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution, grounding and bonding, lighting, controls interfaces, and associated electrical infrastructure are installed, tested, energized, and handed over safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and the operational needs of high-performance compute environments.
This role contributes to the successful delivery of IREN’s Spain data center projects by supervising electrical contractors and subcontractors, coordinating electrical installation sequencing and energization activities, managing interfaces with mechanical, CSA, utilities, controls, commissioning, vendors, and operations teams, monitoring quality and safety performance, resolving field issues, and ensuring that electrical systems are completed to support reliable, resilient, scalable, and safe mission-critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Superintendent, the DC Electrical Superintendent is responsible for:
- Manage the on-site execution of electrical works by coordinating substations, transformers, MV/LV switchgear, generators, UPS systems, busways, distribution boards, cabling, containment, grounding and bonding, lighting, power monitoring, controls interfaces, and associated electrical infrastructure to ensure safe, timely,
and high-quality delivery of data center facilities.
- Supervise electrical contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and site teams by monitoring progress, productivity, manpower, equipment, materials, work fronts, installation standards, and adherence to approved construction schedules, drawings, method statements, installation procedures, and execution plans.
- Coordinate electrical interfaces with mechanical, CSA, architectural, utilities, controls/BMS/EPMS, ICT, security, fire protection, commissioning, operations, consultants, and equipment vendors by aligning sequencing, access, equipment installation, temporary power, energization, inspections, testing, and handover requirements.
- Review and implement electrical construction documentation by checking drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams, RFIs, shop drawings, method statements, inspection and test plans, cable schedules, equipment data, permits, quality records, and site instructions to ensure compliance, constructability, coordination, and traceability of electrical works.
- Manage electrical installation readiness and energization activities by ensuring that systems and equipment meet construction completion, inspection, testing, safety, documentation, and commissioning prerequisites before energization, while coordinating electrical safety procedures, LOTO requirements, energization plans,
and controlled access to live systems.
- Monitor quality, safety, and environmental performance by supporting inspections, audits, toolbox talks, electrical safety reviews, NCR resolution, snagging, risk assessments, corrective actions, and testing activities to ensure compliance with project, regulatory, manufacturer, and IREN standards.
- Identify and resolve electrical site issues, constraints, clashes, deviations, and coordination risks by assessing impacts on cost, schedule, quality, safety, constructability, energization, commissioning, reliability, and future operations, and by escalating critical matters for timely decision making.
- Support testing and commissioning readiness by coordinating equipment inspections, pre-functional checks, electrical testing, vendor start-up activities, system turnover, punch-list closure, documentation, and interfaces with the commissioning team to ensure electrical systems are ready for functional and integrated testing.
- Support project controls and reporting by providing progress updates, lookahead planning inputs, productivity information, risk and issue updates, change inputs, equipment and material delivery status, energization milestones, inspection readiness, testing status, and handover documentation for electrical packages.
- Promote continuous improvement and effective site coordination by sharing lessons learned, strengthening construction and electrical safety routines, supporting collaboration across disciplines, and ensuring alignment with IREN’s sustainability, reliability, scalability, energy efficiency, and high-performance infrastructure standards.
