Position Summary
The Environmental Technician prepares and manages the documentation required to obtain mandatory permits and authorisations for IREN’s data centre projects in Spain. The role covers environmental impact assessment (EIA), integrated environmental authorisation (AAI), where applicable, and any required supporting studies. The position carries out environmental and land-use planning pre-feasibility studies for potential sites and produces maps using geographic information systems (GIS).
Reporting to the ESG Manager, the position coordinates documentation and deadlines with engineering, development, construction, legal teams and external consultants. The role maintains an up-to-date overview of applications and their conditions to support project planning and anticipate permitting risks.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the ESG Manager, the main responsibilities are to:
• Plan permit and authorisation processes, identifying applications, required documentation, responsible parties and dependencies within the development and construction schedule.
• Manage and track the EIA and AAI procedures applicable to each project, from preparing applications through to decisions and monitoring the associated conditions.
• Prepare and review the environmental studies, technical reports and appendices required for permitting, ensuring consistency with the project design and scope.
• Carry out environmental and land-use planning pre-feasibility studies for potential sites, assessing applicable planning instruments, land-use compatibility, environmental and spatial constraints, and restrictions that may affect project development.
• Produce thematic maps and plans to support studies and applications using GIS, integrating official information, boundaries and constraints while maintaining the traceability of sources and data.
