AstraZeneca seeks a Director of AI Research to lead artificial intelligence strategy and implementation for oncology clinical development. The role involves defining AI roadmaps, delivering complex projects, and collaborating across clinical, regulatory, and study teams to advance late-stage drug pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive AI strategy and roadmap for oncology early and late phase clinical development
- Lead delivery of complex, high-stakes AI projects through matrix influence and scientific authority
- Evaluate, develop, and champion AI methods end-to-end from problem definition through adoption
- Build cross-functional relationships to embed AI solutions into clinical study design and decision-making




- Establish external collaborations with academic institutions and technology partners; publish in peer-reviewed venues

Requirements
- PhD in quantitative discipline: computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, mathematics, physics, or biostatistics
- 4-8 years post-PhD work experience with measurable impact in models, patents, or publications
- Expert-level software development and coding with frontier frameworks
- Deep knowledge of machine learning fundamentals and one or more specialized domains
- Deep understanding of one or more biological fields
- Experience with biological data types: molecular, imaging, or clinical text
