Join CHAMP’s Cargo Management team and help shape our AI powered products, where agentic AI and RAG-powered automation solve real-world air cargo challenges. Design and deliver intelligent products, integrate AI/ML into production systems, and build scalable APIs powering industry-leading platforms like Cargospot Neo. Work with Java, Spring Boot, Angular, Python, Docker, OpenShift, GitLab CI, and Agile teams to create solutions used across the integral air cargo industry.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Principal Product Manager, the Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, and integrates AI-based features into CHAMP products and platforms. The role combines strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience implementing machine learning and AI capabilities in production environments.
Reporting to the Principal Product Manager, the Senior Software Engineer takes ownership of designing, developing, and integrating AI-based features into CHAMP products and platforms — from architectural decisions through production delivery.
The role combines deep software engineering expertise with hands-on experience implementing AI capabilities at scale, plus mentoring engineers around them.
Location: Barcelona, Spain
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship AI-powered features end-to-end — LLM-based workflows (RAG, agentic systems, document understanding) and predictive analytics on operational cargo data
- Own architectural decisions for AI/ML integration into CHAMP products, balancing performance, security, scalability, and maintainability
- Build and maintain production-grade APIs and services exposing AI functionality, integrating with platforms built on Java/Spring Boot and Angular
- Translate ambiguous business requirements into scalable technical solutions, working closely with product managers, business analysts, and engineering teams
- Establish and evolve the AI engineering foundations: evaluation, testing, monitoring, and deployment practices for AI features
- Review code, set technical standards, and mentor engineers — especially on AI/ML-specific practices (prompt engineering, model evaluation, RAG design)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must-Haves:
- Strong proficiency in Python or Java
- Hands-on experience designing and shipping AI/ML-powered features in production (e.g., RAG pipelines, agent frameworks, prompt engineering, vector search, or classical ML deployment)
- Strong understanding of software architecture, API design, and system trade-offs at scale
- Experience with Docker and OpenShift (or Kubernetes)
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical/architectural decisions
- Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with Angular
- Familiarity with GitLab CI and MLOps/GenAI tooling (model serving,
vector databases, LLM evaluation frameworks)
- Knowledge of the Air Cargo industry
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Proven experience building AI/ML features, whether in production, serious side projects, or a previous role.
