We are Modelia.

We are building the platform that will transform how the fashion industry creates, manages, and scales visual content. For decades, brands have relied on photoshoots as the foundation of their visual production. They are expensive, slow, and deeply embedded in every P&L.;

We believe that model is coming to an end.

Our engine turns a single garment photo (a flatlay, a mannequin shot, an existing model image) into studio-quality on-model images and video. No photoshoot. Minutes instead of weeks. We already work with brands across 26 countries, including Desigual, AWWG and Tendam, and we have generated on-model imagery for more than 1,000,000 SKUs.

We are the official AI-imagery partner of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, we are part of IED Milano's fashion-design curriculum, and we are backed by top US and EU funds.

We are a focused team, moving fast, building something that doesn't have a clear precedent.

The Role

Most PhDs end in a PDF. This one ends in production.

This is a four-year industrial doctorate. You will carry out an R&D; project at Modelia, and that project will be your PhD thesis, co-supervised by a Spanish university and by our senior research team.

You will work on open problems in generative image and video.



How do you keep a garment's fabric and print exactly right? How do you keep a video consistent from one frame to the next? How do you make generation fast enough to run for thousands of products at once? These questions are not fully solved anywhere yet.

You will get the academic rigour of a doctorate and the speed of a startup. The models you build will be used by fashion brands around the world.

What you'll do

- Lead a focused thesis project within our generative-media roadmap. Possible topics include controllable generation, temporal consistency in video, efficient inference, personalization, and integration into the eCommerce software ecosystem.
- Implement, train and evaluate models, and contribute to the production pipeline.
- Publish your thesis work at conferences and in journals.
- Complete your PhD milestones (enrollment, research stays, thesis) alongside company deliverables.
- Work day to day with our Senior AI Research Scientist (PhD) and the engineers who take models to production.

What we're looking for

- A Master's degree in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related field, with a strong academic transcript.
- Solid ML fundamentals and strong programming skills (Python, PyTorch or similar).
- Real motivation to complete a PhD embedded in industry, and the discipline to do it in four years.
- Clear communication in English.

You'll have an edge if you bring





- A Master's thesis or prior research in generative models, computer vision or deep learning.
- Early research output: workshop papers, preprints or strong competition results.
- Internships, industry projects or open-source work alongside your studies.
- International experience: research stays, exchanges or study abroad.
- A public GitHub, and a genuine curiosity for fashion and visual content.

Good to know To be eligible, you must:

- not already hold a doctorate from any university;
- be enrolled in, or admitted to, a PhD programme at a Spanish university for the 2026/2027 academic year when the contract is signed (we'll help you arrange this);
- not have received more than 12 months of predoctoral funding before (FPI, FPU or similar).
