We are supporting a leading international infrastructure and technology company in the appointment of a Business Development Director for Spain , based in Madrid.

The Development Director will lead the company’s development activities in Spain, with overall accountability for the development portfolio and the origination, structuring, planning and delivery readiness of large-scale AI and high-performance computing data center projects , from early opportunity assessment through construction handover.

Reporting directly to the Spain CEO , the role will lead the Development Department and coordinate all key development workstreams, including land, grid connection, utilities, planning, permitting, connectivity and solution engineering .

Key responsibilities include:

- Lead the development strategy and portfolio in Spain, establishing project priorities, roadmaps, milestones and resource requirements.
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary Development team across Project Development, Land, Grid, Utilities, Planning and Connectivity & Solution Engineering.
- Drive projects through the full development lifecycle, ensuring coordinated progress across land, power availability, grid connection, utilities, permitting, technical feasibility and commercial requirements.
- Ensure project and investment readiness before projects transition into construction and execution.
- Manage critical development risks and dependencies, particularly around land, power, grid, permitting, utilities, schedule, CAPEX and technical feasibility .




- Provide clear portfolio visibility and strategic recommendations to the CEO and senior management.
- Lead relationships with public authorities, landowners, grid operators, utility providers, consultants and strategic partners.
- Work closely with Engineering, Construction, Legal, Finance, Procurement and Sustainability teams.
- Ensure an effective transition from Development into execution and construction.
- Build the governance, processes and capabilities required to support the company’s continued growth in Spain.

Candidate Profile

- Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, Real Estate, Construction Management, Energy, Infrastructure or a related discipline.
- 12–15+ years of experience in data center development, energy infrastructure, real estate development, industrial projects, utilities, construction or other complex technical environments.
- Strong experience managing multidisciplinary development teams and complex stakeholder environments.
- Solid understanding of the Spanish development and permitting environment , including land management, grid connection processes, utilities and investment approval requirements.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, commercial judgement and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Fluent Spanish and professional English.
- Experience in data centers, AI infrastructure, renewable energy, grid-connected developments or mission-critical infrastructure will be particularly valued.
