Position Summary The Construction Counsel supports the legal management of construction, engineering, procurement, and project delivery matters for IREN Spain, ensuring that contracts, legal documentation, claims, risks, and stakeholder interactions are properly reviewed, coordinated, and documented. The role contributes to the legal protection and controlled execution of IREN’s data center development and construction activities, supporting internal teams with practical legal advice aligned with business priorities, project requirements, and corporate governance standards.
Working within the Legal Department and reporting to the General Legal Counsel, the Construction Counsel provides day-to-day legal support on construction contracts, consultancy agreements, contractor negotiations, project documentation, change management, dispute prevention, compliance with contractual obligations, and coordination with external counsel, procurement, development, design, construction, finance, and corporate stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Legal Counsel, the Construction Counsel is responsible for:
- Support the review, negotiation, and management of construction, engineering, procurement, consultancy, and project delivery contracts for IREN’s data center projects in Spain.
- Prepare and maintain contract trackers, legal risk registers, claims records, negotiation logs, obligations matrices, legal evidence files, and status updates to ensure visibility of contractual matters, deadlines, and open points.
- Coordinate legal inputs with procurement, development, technical design, construction, finance, tax, insurance, compliance,
and external counsel to support consistent legal advice across project phases.
- Assist with the identification and follow-up of contractual risks, change orders, claims, notices, warranties, liability provisions, indemnities, delay events, performance obligations, and dispute prevention actions.
- Support the preparation and review of amendments, side letters, notices, waivers, settlement documents, contractor correspondence, board materials, approval documents, and other legal project documentation.
- Monitor compliance with contractual obligations, corporate approval processes, governance requirements, document control practices, and internal legal procedures, escalating relevant issues to the General Legal Counsel.
- Contribute to the improvement of construction legal templates, contract management practices, negotiation playbooks, reporting routines, and legal coordination processes, supporting a consistent and scalable legal framework for IREN Spain.
Requirements
- Law degree and qualification to practise law in Spain or another relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum 4–7 years of experience in construction law, infrastructure projects, engineering and procurement contracts, project finance support, real estate development, energy,
data centers, or large-scale industrial projects.
- Good understanding of construction contracts, EPC/EPCM agreements, consultancy agreements, procurement documentation, change management, claims, notices, warranties, liabilities, indemnities, and dispute prevention mechanisms.
- Ability to organise legal documentation, contract trackers, obligations registers, claims records, legal opinions, approval documents, and external counsel inputs in a clear, accurate, and structured manner.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools; experience with contract lifecycle management tools, document management systems, legal databases, or project delivery platforms will be positively valued.
- Strong drafting, analytical, negotiation support, communication, confidentiality, and stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, contractors, advisors, and external counsel.
- Fluent Spanish and professional English are required; experience in international, high-growth, infrastructure, energy, or mission-critical environments will be positively valued.
