Position Summary The DC Engineer – Expansion supports the technical planning, engineering coordination, and delivery readiness of capacity expansion projects across IREN’s data center portfolio in Spain. The role reviews and consolidates the technical inputs required to extend existing facilities, helping ensure that additional power, cooling, civil, structural, network, and support infrastructure is integrated safely and efficiently while maintaining operational continuity, reliability, quality, and alignment with IREN’s high-performance, power-dense AI infrastructure requirements.

Reporting to the DC Engineering Lead, the role works with MEP, electrical infrastructure, CSA, BIM, BMS/security, quality, commissioning, construction, operations, and external delivery partners to assess existing conditions, coordinate interfaces, follow technical actions, and support the progression of expansion scopes from definition and design review through construction and handover.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the DC Engineering Lead, the DC Engineer – Expansion is responsible for:

- Support the engineering assessment of expansion opportunities at existing data center sites by reviewing available capacity, installed systems, site conditions, operational constraints, and technical dependencies, helping translate expansion needs into coordinated engineering scopes.
- Review drawings, specifications, calculations, surveys, equipment data, design reports, and contractor submissions for expansion works, checking their consistency with project requirements, applicable standards, existing infrastructure, and IREN’s performance and reliability expectations.
- Coordinate technical interfaces across electrical, mechanical, cooling, civil, structural, architectural, controls, security, network, BIM, commissioning, and operations disciplines, identifying clashes, gaps, sequencing constraints,

and required tie-ins before execution.
- Support the preparation and follow-up of technical scopes, design review comments, requests for information, action logs, risk registers, change inputs, and decision records, providing clear visibility of open points and their impact on cost, programme, constructability, and operations.
- Assist with site surveys, technical workshops, contractor and supplier coordination, and construction-stage engineering queries, helping confirm existing conditions and resolve issues without compromising live data center operations.
- Support testing, commissioning, energisation, integrated systems activities, and technical handover for expansion projects by following prerequisites, reviewing documentation, and coordinating outstanding engineering actions with the relevant teams.
- Maintain accurate engineering records and apply IREN’s technical standards, documentation practices, safety expectations, and lessons learned, contributing to repeatable and scalable expansion delivery across the Spanish data center portfolio.
- Manage AECOM’s involvement in expansion projects by coordinating deliverables, monitoring agreed actions, and ensuring its work aligns with IREN’s internal policies, technical standards, governance requirements, and documentation practices.

Requirements

- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, Building Services, or another relevant engineering discipline.

- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in data center engineering, mission-critical facilities, industrial infrastructure, brownfield upgrades, capacity expansion, construction engineering, or multidisciplinary technical coordination.
- Practical understanding of data center infrastructure and interfaces, including medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, backup power, cooling, controls, fire protection, civil and structural works, utilities, testing, commissioning, and operational constraints.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, calculations, surveys, method statements, commissioning documentation, and contractor submittals, with a structured approach to identifying gaps, risks, and dependencies.
- Experience supporting works in live, occupied, or operationally sensitive facilities, including awareness of shutdown planning, tie-in sequencing, change control, safety coordination, and business continuity, will be positively valued.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management tools; experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM collaboration platforms, or project tracking systems will be positively valued.
- Strong coordination, analytical, and communication skills; fluent Spanish and professional English are required, together with availability to travel regularly between IREN sites in Badajoz, Cáceres, and Madrid as project needs require.

Compensation

- Compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
- Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus, and equity (long-term incentive)

Health & Wellness

- Medical, dental and insurance coverage.
- Wellhub: access to gyms, fitness classes and wellness services.
- Pluxee: adaptable benefits for meals, transportation and childcare expenses.
