Position Summary The DC Engineering Lead is responsible for coordinating, tracking, and supporting the integration of civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and specialist systems design activities across the preconstruction and design development stages of IREN’s next-generation, renewable-powered data center projects. The role ensures that multidisciplinary design information is complete, coordinated, constructible, compliant, and aligned with project objectives, procurement needs, construction sequencing, commissioning requirements, and the operational demands of high-performance compute environments.
This role contributes to the successful development and delivery of IREN’s Spain data center pipeline by supporting design management routines, coordinating consultants and technical stakeholders, managing design deliverables and review cycles, identifying clashes and information gaps, facilitating technical decisions, maintaining design records, and helping ensure that CSA and MEP solutions are properly integrated before procurement and construction activities progress.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Design & Construction Director, the DC Engineering Lead is responsible for:
- Coordinate CSA and MEP design activities by tracking deliverables, review cycles, comments, approvals, design changes, and technical actions to ensure timely and consistent progression of IREN’s data center design packages.
- Support multidisciplinary design integration by coordinating interfaces between civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, fire protection, security, networking, utilities, commissioning, operations, procurement, consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Review design documentation for completeness and coordination by checking drawings, specifications, schedules, design reports, BIM outputs, clash information, technical registers, and consultant submissions against project requirements, design standards, and constructability needs.
- Maintain design management tools, registers, meeting outputs, decision logs,
RFI trackers, design risk registers, action lists, and document control routines to ensure design information is traceable, current, and available to project stakeholders.
- Facilitate technical coordination meetings and workshops by preparing inputs, recording decisions, following up on actions, escalating unresolved issues, and supporting alignment between design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
- Identify design gaps, clashes, dependencies, and coordination risks by assessing impacts on cost, schedule, constructability, safety, compliance, commissioning, maintainability, and future operations, and by supporting timely mitigation actions.
- Support tendering and procurement activities by coordinating technical information, design clarifications, scope boundaries, drawings, specifications, vendor inputs, and responses to bidder queries for CSA and MEP packages.
- Promote consistency and continuous improvement in design coordination by standardizing workflows, capturing lessons learned, improving reporting routines, and supporting alignment with IREN’s sustainability, reliability, scalability, and high-performance infrastructure standards.
Requirements
- At least 5–8 years of experience in design coordination, design management support, technical coordination, BIM coordination, preconstruction, or multidisciplinary project delivery, preferably within data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial infrastructure, energy projects, logistics buildings, or large-scale commercial construction.
- Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering,
Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; training or certifications in BIM, design management, project management, document control, or data center design are well regarded.
- Good technical understanding of CSA and MEP systems, including civil works, structural systems, architectural layouts, building envelope, foundations, roads, drainage, utilities interfaces, HVAC, cooling, power distribution, fire protection, controls, security, networking, and commissioning interfaces.
- Solid knowledge of design coordination processes, including design reviews, drawing coordination, clash resolution, technical registers, design deliverables, RFIs, action tracking, document control, procurement support, constructability reviews, and design risk management.
- Ability to review drawings, specifications, BIM outputs, design reports, schedules, technical submissions, meeting outputs, and consultant deliverables with strong attention to interfaces, consistency, completeness, constructability, compliance, and operational readiness.
- Familiarity with relevant building codes, data center design practices, BIM coordination principles, document management systems, safety and sustainability requirements, commissioning needs, and multidisciplinary project workflows.
- Organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, and proactive profile, with strong communication, follow-up, stakeholder coordination, documentation, planning, problem-solving, and prioritization skills, and the ability to work effectively across technical disciplines and project teams.
