Position Summary The Director of Procurement & Supply Chain is responsible for defining and directing IREN Spain’s procurement and supply chain framework across the development, construction, activation and operational readiness of its data center portfolio. The role establishes category, sourcing, contracting, supplier and logistics priorities that secure critical equipment, materials and services at the required cost, quality and timing, supporting the scalable delivery of IREN’s high-performance, power-dense and AI-ready infrastructure.
Based in Madrid and reporting to the IREN Spain CEO, the role leads the Procurement & Supply Chain department, encompassing delivery procurement for BAZ01 and BAZ02, greenfield expansion procurement, activation and supply chain, digital procurement processes and SAP, and supplier qualification. It partners with Development, Engineering, Construction, Operations, Project Controls, Finance, Legal and other corporate functions, while maintaining senior relationships with strategic suppliers, contractors and advisers and ensuring compliance with IREN’s governance and Supplier Code of Conduct.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Procurement & Supply Chain is responsible for:
- Define and implement the procurement and supply chain strategy for IREN Spain, aligning sourcing, contracting, supplier capacity and logistics priorities with the data center development pipeline, approved investment plans and portfolio delivery milestones.
- Direct procurement execution across BAZ01 and BAZ02 delivery and Greenfield Expansion projects I, II and III, ensuring that procurement plans, tendering activity, commercial recommendations and contract awards support scope, budget, programme, quality and technical requirements.
- Oversee activation and supply chain activities, including long-lead planning, expediting, inspections, logistics interfaces, delivery readiness and handover,
so that equipment and materials are available in line with construction, commissioning and operational requirements.
- Establish procurement governance, delegated authorities, commercial controls, standard documentation, performance indicators and reporting, while sponsoring effective digital workflows and SAP processes that provide reliable visibility of commitments, savings, risk, supplier performance and delivery status.
- Direct supplier qualification, segmentation and performance management, developing resilient sources of supply and strategic relationships for critical data center equipment, construction packages and services while monitoring capacity, concentration, continuity and market exposure.
- Lead major commercial negotiations and the management of material contractual risks, variations, claims and escalations, coordinating with Legal, Finance, Project Controls and project leadership to protect IREN’s commercial position and support timely, evidence-based decisions.
- Lead, organise and develop the Procurement & Supply Chain team, setting clear accountabilities across delivery, greenfield expansion, activation, systems/process and supplier qualification, and ensure that suppliers comply with applicable law, safety, integrity, confidentiality, sustainability and IREN Supplier Code of Conduct requirements.
Requirements
- Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification or recognised professional procurement accreditation will be positively valued.
- Minimum 12–15 years of progressive procurement and supply chain experience, including substantial leadership responsibility within large-scale capital projects, data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, energy, utilities or industrial construction.
- Demonstrated experience establishing procurement strategies and governance, leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex portfolios covering development, construction, equipment, services, logistics and supplier management.
- Strong commercial and contractual capability, with a record of leading high-value sourcing and negotiations, evaluating total cost and risk, and resolving material variations, claims, supplier underperformance and delivery constraints.
- Comprehensive understanding of global supply markets, long-lead equipment, supplier qualification, expediting, logistics, project controls and the interfaces between development, engineering, construction, commissioning and operations.
- Experience implementing procurement operating models, controls, performance reporting and digital or ERP-enabled processes; advanced knowledge of SAP or comparable platforms and strong analytical capability are desirable.
- Fluent Spanish and professional English are required, together with strong executive communication, stakeholder management, negotiation, team leadership and decision-making skills in fast-paced, international project environments.
