Position Summary
The Peer Support Specialist provides direct support and engagement services to individuals with high-acuity behavioral health needs who are participating in Criminal Justice Ministry’s housing and reentry programs. This role serves as a critical bridge between clients and clinical services, helping individuals remain engaged in care while promoting hope, resilience, self-determination, and recovery.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Build supportive, trusting relationships with clients through peer-based engagement and encouragement.
• Utilize personal recovery and lived experience, when appropriate, to inspire hope and model successful community reintegration.
• Conduct regular home visits to assess client well-being and provide ongoing support.
• Support clients in developing daily living skills, healthy routines, and community connections.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation of client contacts, home visits, service activities, and outcomes.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Certified Peer Support Specialist credential required, or ability to obtain certification within a designated timeframe.
• Strong understanding of peer support principles, recovery-oriented practices, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction strategies.
• Lived experience with mental health recovery, substance use recovery, justice involvement, or housing instability preferred.
