Job Scope The Health and Safety Manager, reporting directly to the Country General Manager, is responsible for leading, implementing, and monitoring occupational health and safety activities across the operations in Spain. The Health & Safety Manager coordinates with the appointed internal or external prevention service and supports all departments in managing workplace risks, implementing preventive measures, delivering employee training, and investigating incidents. It drives compliance with Spanish Occupational Risk Prevention Law 31/1995 and Royal Decree 39/1997, alongside applicable airport and client requirements, while promoting a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities

- Lead workplace risk assessment and prevention activities, coordinating with the appointed internal or external prevention service to analyse operational risks and define appropriate preventive measures, controls, and safe working procedures.
- Oversee the preparation, implementation, and updating of health and safety documentation, including the Occupational Risk Prevention Plan, workplace risk assessments, preventive action plans, and emergency procedures.
- Plan and conduct regular workplace inspections and internal safety audits, identifying non-compliance, agreeing corrective actions with department managers, and monitoring their timely completion and effectiveness.
- Manage health and safety coordination with contractors, service providers,



and airport operators, including Coordinación de Actividades Empresariales (CAE) requirements, the exchange of risk information, coordination records, and implementation of controls for risks arising from shared workplaces.
- Assess the health and safety implications of operational changes, including new equipment, workplace layouts, working methods, and new openings, ensuring relevant risk assessments and preventive measures are reviewed and updated.
- Drive the implementation of health and safety procedures across all departments, providing practical guidance to managers and employees and monitoring consistent application in day-to-day operations.
- Identify and promptly escalate unsafe conditions and serious risks, coordinate immediate protective measures, and lead investigations into workplace accidents and near misses to establish causes and prevent recurrence. Coordinate any required statutory reporting with the relevant internal teams.
- Oversee the selection, provision, correct use, maintenance, and replacement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ensuring its suitability for identified risks and that employees receive appropriate instructions and training.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response arrangements, including first aid, fire response, and evacuation procedures. Support the designation and training of emergency personnel and organise drills in coordination with airport emergency arrangements.




- Promote employee awareness and participation, developing safety communications and guidance materials and engaging with employee safety representatives and the Health and Safety Committee, where applicable.
- Oversee safety documentation relating to facilities, equipment, and protective systems, coordinating with Operations and Maintenance to monitor required inspections, maintenance records, and supporting compliance documentation.
- Coordinate occupational health surveillance through qualified healthcare professionals, working with HR and Operations to implement relevant fitness-for-work recommendations and workplace adjustments while protecting medical confidentiality.
- Act as the company’s operational contact during health and safety inspections, coordinating documentation, site visits, and corrective responses with the Spanish Labour and Social Security Inspectorate, other competent authorities, airport representatives, and clients.
- Monitor and report health and safety performance to management, covering incidents, audit findings, training completion, outstanding corrective actions, and improvement priorities across PPG’s Spanish operations.

Role requirements

- University degree, preferably in Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum five years of occupational health and safety experience, including at least two years leading or coordinating safety activities, preferably across multiple locations.
- Strong practical knowledge of Spanish occupational health and safety legislation and Coordinación de Actividades Empresariales (CAE) requirements for contractors and shared workplaces.
- Fluent communication in English and Spanish
