We are currently looking for a Lead / Senior Unreal Engine Programmer to take a key technical role in the development of our gameplay systems, with a particular focus on character movement, locomotion, traversal, and third-person platforming .
Important: Project Mercy is currently an unpaid collaborative project . Our goal at this stage is to build a strong, high-quality playable demo that can be presented externally as we explore funding opportunities for the full development of the game.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical development of the player character and core gameplay systems.
- Develop and evolve a custom character movement/controller solution built around Unreal Engine's Mover framework .
- Extend and adapt Mover to the specific needs of the project rather than relying on the framework out of the box.
- Work on locomotion, traversal and precise third-person 3D platforming.
- Make technical decisions regarding architecture, priorities and implementation.
- Translate Game Design requirements into clear and actionable programming tasks.
- Coordinate and support other programmers within the department.
- Review implementations and help resolve technical blockers.
- Work closely with Game Design, Animation and Production .
- Help define technical standards and drive the programming department forward.
Requirements
- Strong professional or equivalent experience with Unreal Engine 5 and C++ .
- Strong experience developing gameplay systems .
- Experience with Character Controllers, character movement, locomotion, traversal and/or third-person platforming .
- Ideally, experience developing or heavily modifying custom kinematic character controllers for precise 3D movement.
- Ability to work with and extend Unreal Engine's Mover framework or comparable movement architectures.
- Previous experience as a Lead Programmer, Technical Lead, Senior Gameplay Programmer , or in a role involving technical leadership.
- Ability to make technical decisions and take ownership of complex gameplay systems.
- Experience coordinating programmers, reviewing work and resolving technical blockers.
- Proactive approach to development and technical leadership.
- Good communication and ability to collaborate across disciplines.

- Gameplay Ability System (GAS)
- Third-person action games
- Combat systems
- Advanced locomotion systems
- Motion Matching
- Traversal systems
- Custom movement physics
- Unreal Engine animation/gameplay integration
About the project Project Mercy combines tactical turn-based combat with free third-person movement and platforming , placing particular importance on responsive and precise character control.
The project is being developed remotely by an international collaborative team, with the current milestone focused on producing a polished playable demo.
