A paraprofessional, or teacher’s assistant, assists teachers with instructional, administrative and classroom management tasks. Duties include: helping students complete their coursework, supervising students during group activities and preparing worksheets needed for class.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTIONUnder supervision, works in a general education classroom assisting teaching staff in a variety of instructional activities. Assists teachersand provides targeted academic, behavioral or developmental support to students who need extra help beyond regular classroom instruction. Incumbent can also provide attendant services to students with various intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Incumbent performs related work as required.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESParaprofessionals assist students and teachers to help ensure a smooth, productive school day. This often includes performing a mix of clerical,



academic and behavior-management-related tasks.
- Implement instructional plans provided by the supervising teacher
- Create and oversee behavior-management plans
- Supervise students in the classroom and during certain out-of-classroom activities
- Tutor students and assist in small group learning exercises
- Help with administrative tasks ( ), such as copying and filing papers, taking attendance and preparing presentations
- Collaborate with other educational professionals to meet students’ needs
- Assist with more generalized school activities, like assemblies and recess
- Participate in lesson planning meetings, parent-teacher conferences and special education assessments
