The Role & Opportunity
We are looking for a highly motivated, analytical, and ambitious Carbon Methodology Specialist with hands-on familiarity in Verra’s Agricultural Land Management (ALM) framework, specifically VM0042 .
We are not looking for 15 years of corporate experience or expensive senior consultants. We want young talent, high learning velocity, technical drive, and passion for carbon science .
You will join us for an initial 3-month full-time consulting sprint dedicated to executing mathematical modeling, SOC quantification, and drafting Project Design Documents (PDDs) across our active international pipeline. Upon successful delivery of these PDDs and mutual cultural fit, this position is designed to transition into a permanent, full-time core role within our central team.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables (3-Month Sprint)
- VM0042 Carbon Accounting: Apply VM0042 equations to accurately calculate Emission Reductions and Removals (ERRs), leakage, and emission balances for Nitrous Oxide (N2O) and Methane (CH4).
- Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) Modeling:
Execute biogeochemical modeling using the RothC model to simulate soil carbon sequestration dynamics across project sites.
- Sampling Protocol Design: Define technical data requirements and design strict field sampling protocols compliant with Verra standards.
- Complementary Methodologies Ecosystem: Align PDDs with related standards and tools, including VM0047 (ARR), VMD0053 (Uncertainty Estimation), and Verra AFOLU tools (VT0001).
- Direct Execution: Collaborate directly with CEO Miguel Ángel García Tamargo and Chief Scientific Advisor Prof. Luis Seco (University of Toronto) in a completely flat structure.
Who You Are
- Educational Background: Degree or Master's in Forestry, Agronomy, Environmental Engineering, Biogeochemistry, or related quantitative environmental fields.
- Experience Level: 1–3 years of experience in carbon markets, environmental consulting, or NbS project development.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with Verra ALM frameworks (VM0042) and basic/intermediate experience in soil carbon modeling (RothC).
- Mindset: Proactive, self-directed, comfortable handling complex datasets, and eager to grow rapidly inside a climate-tech startup.
- Languages: Professional fluency in English (technical writing of PDDs is in English). Spanish is a good addition but not a must.
