System & Protection Test Engineer
Location: Hybrid / On-site (Sevilla)

About the Role
We are looking for a System & Protection Test Engineer to join our engineering team and ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of our industrial automation and power distribution products.
The ideal candidate has a strong electrical engineering background, particularly in protection functions and power system applications, combined with hands-on experience testing hardware, software, communication protocols, and complete system solutions. This role requires a practical and analytical engineer capable of independently executing test campaigns, diagnosing issues, and ensuring products meet customer and industry expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Execute testing activities for hardware, software, and complete system solutions throughout the product lifecycle.
Perform detailed testing of electrical protection functions, including:
Overcurrent protection
Short-circuit protection
Earth fault protection
Directional protection
Protection coordination and selectivity
Configure, execute, and document functional, integration, regression, and system-level tests.
Verify communication protocols and interoperability with external devices, RTUs, SCADA systems, and customer infrastructures.
Configure products according to customer use cases and validate system behavior under realistic operating conditions.
Analyze failures, investigate root causes, and support engineering teams in identifying corrective actions.
Develop and improve manual and automated test setups to increase test coverage and efficiency.
Operate laboratory equipment safely and effectively while following established safety procedures and best practices.
Generate comprehensive test reports and communicate findings to development, product, and quality teams.
Support product releases by ensuring delivered solutions meet quality, performance, and reliability requirements.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing methodologies, tools, and processes.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
Strong knowledge of electrical protection principles and protection functions is essential.
Experience testing, configuring, commissioning, or supporting protection devices and electrical automation systems.
Solid understanding of power distribution systems and electrical protection applications.
Experience testing both hardware and software components in industrial environments.
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as:
IEC 61850
Modbus
DNP3
IEC 60870-5-104
Experience configuring and troubleshooting communication networks and connected devices.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to investigate complex technical issues and identify root causes independently.
Attention to detail and a strong quality-oriented mindset.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Professional proficiency in English.
Nice to Have
Experience with RTUs, SCADA systems, substation automation, or grid automation products.
Experience with protection relays and electrical distribution equipment.
Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, or utility-related standards.
Experience with automated testing and scripting tools such as Python or Robot Framework.
Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity concepts.
Experience supporting product certification or compliance testing activities.
Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, power analyzers, and signal generators.




C1 level (or higher) in English.
