Managing Composites
Madrid
Description:
Managing Composites / WIMH Group
Managing Composites is an engineering company specialised in composite materials. We grew fast as a founder-led business, and now we are becoming a group. WIMH (Where Is My Helmet) will hold MC, future companies, acquisitions and a UK Ltd that is joining us.
Today almost everything still runs through MC. Our finance works for the company we were. We need someone to build the finance for the company we are becoming: numbers we trust, decisions made faster, and foundations strong enough for organic growth and acquisitions.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership and a lot still to build.
THE ROLE
- Reports to the CEO and works closely with the Board.
- Owns Finance across MC and WIMH Group, leading a team of three: two finance specialists and one person dedicated to R&D; funding.
- Administration stays a separate function under its current leadership. You build the interface with them as one system, with clear ownership on each side.
- We'd prefer you to be based in Madrid, where our HQ is. If not, you'll need a reliable connection and be happy to come to the office regularly.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Strategy & performance
- Be the CEO's and Board's main financial partner: challenge with independent judgement and propose improvements before anyone asks.
- Lead budgeting (with clear budgets and ownership by department), forecasting, long-range planning, scenarios and capital allocation.
- Improve our current reporting so it drives decisions: margin, EBITDA, cash, working capital, project and customer profitability.
- Make finance scale through automation and AI, not only through headcount.
What decision does this analysis enable, and what value does it create?
Numbers you can defend
- Own the statutory audit and the relationship with auditors, from preparation to closure.
- Make every material figure traceable from the report back to the source transaction.
- Strengthen controls, policies and closing processes without creating bureaucracy.
How do we know this number is true, and can we defend it tomorrow?
Cash & resilience
- Own treasury, banking relationships, funding and debt.
- Keep short-, medium- and long-term cash forecasts and actively improve working capital.
- Detect risks early and protect the Group with scenario planning.
What happens to cash if a customer delays or everything goes sideways?
Tax, R&D; funding & incentives
- Own the financial governance of R&D; grants and public funding, with solid cost allocation and evidence.
- Capture every legitimate Spanish R&D; tax deduction and incentive, working with external specialists.
- Coordinate Spanish and UK tax and reporting, owning the positions instead of outsourcing the thinking to advisers.
Could we defend every euro we claim, on both sides of the border?
Group scaling & M&A;
- Support acquisitions: assessment, due diligence, valuation and negotiation.
- Integrate acquired companies and the UK Ltd into one Group framework of controls, reporting and KPIs.
- Keep the Group ready at all times for audit, financing, investors or any strategic transaction.
What would concern a buyer today, and how do we fix it before they ask?
Leading the team
- Lead, coach and develop a small team, giving them real ownership and room to grow.
- Set clear priorities and expectations, then trust people to find their own way to get there.
- Decide how the team should evolve as the Group grows: what to automate, what to outsource and when to hire.
- Build a team others want to work with, not a control tower the rest of the company fears and avoids.
Would your team say they grew because you were here?
YOUR FIRST 12 MONTHS
- Current monthly reporting challenged and improved: reliable, on time and actually used by leaders.
- A smooth transition from a single company to holding operations.
- Our first acquisitions integrated without disruption.
- The UK Ltd integrated into a consistent Group financial framework.
- A statutory audit with fewer surprises and stronger evidence.
- Visible improvement in margins, cash generation and working capital.
- R&D; funding and incentives fully traceable and maximised.
- A finance team that is aligned, growing and trusted by the rest of the company.
- You are part of the MC culture, and you help carry it into every new company that joins.
- Value created by finance clearly above the cost of the role.
HOW WE WORK AT MC
People first. We build things with people, and the numbers are there to help them, not to police them.
Trust by default.
You get full ownership and full autonomy. No news is good news.
Try, fail, learn. We prefer someone who experiments and sometimes gets it wrong over someone who never tries. Hiding a mistake is the only real mistake.
Engineers at heart. We like hard problems, honest data and direct conversations. No politics.
We grow together. When the company does well, the people who made it happen share the results.
WHAT WE OFFER
We offer profit sharing / equity and a compensation package, along with private health insurance, unlimited therapy online or in person, gym access nationwide with the option to add family members, versátil remuneration and on-demand payroll advance, mortgage advice on preferential terms, free tax advice and income tax return support , continuous training and development plans, and the chance to build the Group's finance function from the ground up.
We are looking for a business builder with the rigour of an auditor, the mindset of an owner, and the curiosity to keep asking:
How can we make this better?
Requirements:
WHAT YOU BRING
Must have
- 10+ years in finance, including a CFO or Finance Director role in a growing business.
- Real ownership of audits, controls, reporting and cash forecasting.
- Experience leading and developing finance teams.
- Strong financial modelling and commercial judgement.
- Solid knowledge of Spanish taxation.
- Working knowledge of UK tax and accounting basics. You don't need to be a UK tax expert, we have advisers for that.
- Fluent English and Spanish.
Strong advantages
- Big Four or equivalent audit background; ACA, ACCA, CPA or similar.
- M&A;, post-acquisition integration, multi-company or PE-backed experience.
- Industrial, engineering or project-based businesses.
Have you built, challenged and defended the numbers, not just reported them?
WHO YOU ARE
- Owner-minded: you care about outcomes more than job boundaries.
- Hands-on: Board meeting in the morning, reconciliation or model in the afternoon.
- Business-focused: finance exists to help the company grow, not to slow it down.
- Professionally sceptical: you trust people and verify data.
- A leader who gives space: you coach, you don't micromanage.
- Automation-obsessed: if it's manual and repetitive, you want to kill it.
- A little weird: rigorous without being rigid, serious about results without taking yourself too seriously.
