Chief Technology Officer (CTO) — Bright Like UCompany: Bright Like U, S.L.U. · Barcelona, Spain Reports to: Founder & CEO Location: Barcelona / hybrid-remote within Spain Contract: indefinite employment recommended for a continuous-dedication role Compensation: to define Start date: As soon as possible Languages: English and Spanish (French is a plus)

About Bright Like UBright Like U is an early-stage Barcelona company at the intersection of health, science and technology. Our first product, BlikeU, is a bilingual (ES/EN) marketplace of professional services (health, mental health, legal, real estate, and care & wellbeing) built for the gay male community in Spain. Professionals will go through verification of their professional registration, and clients will be able to book and pay inside the app.

We are a small team with a clear priority: get BlikeU into production, in the App Store and Google Play, and keep our web presence solid while we grow.

The roleYou are the technical owner of the company. In the first months you will validate the BlikeU web app and mobile app end to end, take them through Google Play and Apple App Store review and publication, and take over maintenance of our website. You will own the architecture, the code, the infrastructure and the technical side of compliance, and you will build the engineering foundations the company will grow on.

The decision on architecture and stack (for example, Expo/React Native vs. a web-first approach with a native wrapper) is yours. We currently have a starter kit (Expo / React Native, TypeScript, Supabase) with schema, row-level security, versioned consent records, age verification and an audit log; you decide whether to build on it or replace it.

Key responsibilities1. Validate the BlikeU app (web and mobile)

- Review and validate the current codebase, schema and starter kit; decide what to keep and what to rebuild.
- Define and run the validation plan: functional testing, security review, performance, accessibility and UX on iOS, Android and web.
- Deliver a production-ready MVP: onboarding, professional profiles, search, booking, in-app payments (Stripe Connect), chat and video consultation, and bilingual ES/EN content.
- Set up staging and production environments, CI/CD, monitoring, error tracking and backups.
- Define the release criteria ("definition of done")

and sign off each release.

2. Publish on Google Play and the Apple App Store
- Set up and manage the organization developer accounts (Apple Developer Program, including D-U-N-S enrollment; Google Play Console organization account).
- Prepare and submit builds: signing, certificates, provisioning, store listings, screenshots, metadata, age ratings and content declarations.
- Complete the store compliance requirements: privacy policy, data-safety and App Privacy declarations, account-deletion flow, in-app payments and commission rules, user-generated-content and health-category policies.
- Handle review rejections, resubmissions and store communication until the apps are live.
- Own the release process afterwards: versioning, phased rollouts, crash monitoring and hotfixes.

3. Website maintenance
- Maintain and improve brightlikeu.com (currently hosted on Netlify with continuous deployment from a private GitHub repository) and its sub-pages.
- Own domains, DNS, SSL, hosting, and business email configuration (SPF, DKIM, MX).
- Keep the site fast, secure, accessible and bilingual; implement cookie consent, privacy policy and forms in line with GDPR and LSSI.
- Make sure nothing goes live outside the repository workflow, and that public content follows company communication rules.

4. Security, privacy and compliance by design
- BlikeU processes special-category data (health and sexual orientation, GDPR art. 9). You will design for privacy from the start: data minimization, encryption, access control, EU data residency, consent management and audit logging.

- Work with the CEO and external advisors on the DPIA, the DPO question, data-processing agreements with vendors (video, hosting, payments) and the retention policy.
- Design and implement end-to-end encryption for in-app chat.
- Run credential hygiene: password manager, 2FA everywhere, key rotation, least-privilege access, and secure secrets management.

5. Team, vendors and roadmap

- Define the technical roadmap and estimate effort and cost.
- Recruit, manage and mentor freelancers or future engineers; run code reviews and set engineering standards.
- Select and manage technical vendors and tools; control infrastructure cost.
- Report progress and technical risk to the CEO and the strategic committee, and contribute to investor-facing technical material.

RequirementsMust have

- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading a technical team or owning architecture.
- Proven experience taking at least one mobile app through App Store and Google Play review and publication.
- Strong experience with React Native / Expo (or native iOS/Android) and TypeScript.
- Backend experience with PostgreSQL and a BaaS or API stack (Supabase preferred), row-level security, and authentication.
- Payments experience, ideally Stripe Connect (marketplace flows).
- Solid grounding in security and GDPR-compliant engineering, including handling sensitive personal data.
- CI/CD, cloud and web hosting experience (Netlify, GitHub, DNS).
- Fluent English and Spanish.

Nice to have

- Experience in marketplaces, health-tech or regulated sectors.
- Experience with video consultation providers, E2EE messaging and push notifications.
- Familiarity with Spanish and EU regulation (GDPR, LOPDGDD, LSSI, medical device software rules where relevant).
- Startup experience and comfort working with limited resources.
- Sensitivity to and respect for the LGBTQ+ community and BlikeU's audience.

What we offer
- Real ownership of technology decisions in an early-stage company.
- A product with a clear purpose and a founder who is a physician and researcher.
- A bilingual, international environment based in Barcelona.
- Compensation, equity and benefits to be defined during the interview after CV analysis
