Context And Mission The BSC Tech Transfer Department is looking for a Platform Software Developer to lead and implement the technical development of the CLARIAH-CAT Open Digital Platform. The successful candidate will join the CLARIAH-CAT management team and work in close collaboration with the project's promoter and Innovation Officer. The Platform is the backbone of the network's knowledge valorisation programme.
It will host open-access digital content (research outputs, datasets, tools, educational resources, and cultural heritage collections), provide intelligent search and visualisation interfaces, enable co-creation and citizen science features, and connect with major international repositories such as Europeana, CLARIN's Virtual Language Observatory, and DARIAH's SSH Open Marketplace.
Key Duties
- Design and implement the functional architecture of the CLARIAH-CAT Open Digital Platform, including modules for content consultation, download, visualisation, co-creation and user management.
- Develop the back-end services and REST/GraphQL APIs that power the platform, ensuring scalability, security and performance.
- Implement the front-end interfaces (web and responsive mobile) following UX best practices and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).
- Define and enforce data modelling, metadata schemas and licensing policies (Creative Commons and open licences) in alignment with FAIR data principles and linked open data standards.
- Integrate the platform with external repositories and databases: –
- Europeana and CLARIN's Virtual Language Observatory –
- DARIAH's SSH Open Marketplace –
- CIDOC-CRM and other cultural heritage ontologies –
- Institutional repositories of network members
- Coordinate the progressive ingestion of digital assets contributed by the network's research groups (language models, datasets, NLP tools, digitised heritage objects, educational resources, and research publications).
- Implement traceability, attribution and provenance mechanisms to guarantee authorship and shared responsibility between agents.
- Ensure full compliance with FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) across all data assets hosted on the platform.
- Implement OAI-PMH or similar harvesting protocols to enable content discovery by third-party aggregators.
Requirements
- Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
- A background combining Computer Science with Digital Humanities, Library and Information Science, or Cultural Heritage will be considered a strong asset.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in full-stack web application development.
- Proven experience with back-end frameworks (e.g. Django, FastAPI, Node.js / Express) and relational or document databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Practical knowledge of RESTful API design and, ideally, GraphQL.
- Experience with Tomcat and Apache web services
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Docker Compose) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent).
- Understanding of open licensing models (Creative Commons) and open science practices.
- Familiarity with metadata standards and cultural heritage data models: –
- FAIR data principles and linked open data (RDF, SPARQL, schema.org) –
- Dublin Core, MARC21, METS/MODS, or CIDOC-CRM –
- OAI-PMH harvesting protocol
- Knowledge of Catalan (working proficiency).
- Knowledge and experience in building web-responsive and UI/UX platforms
- Competences
- Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple concurrent deliverables within a complex, multi-stakeholder network.
- Strong communication skills to translate technical requirements into accessible language for researchers and cultural professionals with diverse technical backgrounds.
- Team-oriented mindset and collaborative approach, with experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to open science, open-source software and transparent development practices.
- Proactive attitude towards problem-solving and a genuine interest in the intersection of technology and cultural heritage.
Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Directors Department
- We offer a full-time contract (35h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, versátil working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 22 days of holidays + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona

Development of the recruitment process The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
- Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position.
- 40 points
- Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase,
technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated.
- 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.
The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women. In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.
The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
