Senior Full Stack Engineer (Automation Platform)

At Hays, we are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer (Automation Platform) to join the development of an internal automation platform for a leading general pharmaceutical company. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and evolving a business-critical platform focused on process automation, operational efficiency, and future AI-enabled capabilities.

You will collaborate with business stakeholders, operational teams, IT, Global Capability Owners, and international teams to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions that drive digital transformation and process excellence.

What you will do

- Design, develop, and maintain an internal platform focused on automation and AI-enabled process improvements.
- Build and enhance server-rendered web applications using Node.js, Express.js, and EJS following MVC architecture principles.
- Develop and maintain RESTful integrations with enterprise systems, particularly Jira APIs and Webhooks.
- Design and optimize MongoDB databases and Mongoose data models to ensure performance, scalability, and data integrity.
- Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms, including session management, role-based access control, and CSRF protection.
- Partner with business stakeholders to identify automation opportunities and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Ensure software quality through clean code practices, documentation, testing, and maintainable architecture.
- Contribute to platform governance, standardization, and the adoption of reusable development patterns.
- Support the evolution of intelligent workflows and future AI-driven automation initiatives.
- Collaborate with global teams in a cross-functional and international environment.

What we are looking for

- 4+ years of experience in Full Stack Development, Platform Engineering, or Software Development roles.
- Strong experience with JavaScript (ES6+), including: Async/Await, Modules,



Modern JavaScript patterns, Object and array manipulation
- Hands-on experience with: Node.js, Express.js, MVC architecture, Routing and middleware, Controller/service separation
- Experience developing applications using EJS templating: Server-side rendering, Layouts and partials, Reusable components.
- Strong knowledge of: MongoDB, Mongoose, Schema design, Populate methods and hooks, Indexing and query optimization
- Experience implementing: Authentication and authorization frameworks, Express Session, Connect-Mongo, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), CSRF protection
- Front-end development experience with: Bootstrap, CSS, Vanilla JavaScript
- Experience integrating enterprise applications through: REST APIs, Jira APIs, Webhooks, Payload mapping, Error handling and resiliency practices
- Experience working within Agile environments and cross-functional teams.
- Fluent English level.

Nice to Have

- Experience building internal developer platforms or enterprise automation frameworks.
- Exposure to AI-assisted workflows, intelligent routing, or decision automation solutions.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, process improvement methodologies, or operational excellence environments.
- Experience creating technical documentation and reusable platform standards.
- Strong DevOps background, including CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- UI/UX design experience.
- Experience working in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or life sciences.
