We have partnered with our client in their search for a Contract Manager, based in Badajoz, Spain.
The Contract Manager is responsible for leading the structuring, negotiation, drafting, review, and administration of commercial agreements that support IREN’s data center infrastructure construction projects by working cross-functionally with project development, construction, procurement, finance, operations, and legal teams to ensure contracts are commercially sound, operationally aligned, and appropriately structured to support successful project delivery and infrastructure expansion.
This role contributes to scalable growth and disciplined project execution by serving as the primary commercial interface between the project management team and the internal legal team, aligning commercial objectives with corporate governance standards, regulatory requirements, and enterprise risk management frameworks, and strengthening contracting processes across multiple jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Technical Office Manager, the Contract Manager is responsible for:
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements supporting development and construction projects, including EPC agreements, construction contracts, equipment supply agreements, NDAs, and strategic vendor contracts, by applying approved templates, fallback positions, and risk guidelines to ensure agreements are commercially robust and aligned with corporate standards.
- Support project development, project management,
and construction teams by structuring contractor scope, commercial terms, and bid requirements to ensure contracts reflect project objectives, timelines, budgets, and performance milestones.
- Identify and manage commercial, financial, regulatory, governance, and performance risks within contracts by assessing key provisions, proposing practical mitigation strategies, and escalating material matters in accordance with approval thresholds and corporate frameworks.
- Lead commercial negotiations with contractors, suppliers, utilities, and strategic partners across multiple jurisdictions by coordinating stakeholder input and balancing commercial, operational, legal, and risk considerations to secure effective contractual outcomes.
- Partner with regional project managers, procurement, finance, operations, and the internal legal team by serving as the primary commercial liaison to ensure non-standard terms, material deviations, and elevated risk positions are reviewed, approved, and aligned with project and corporate requirements.
- Develop capital contracting strategies, including packaging approach, risk allocation philosophy, and bid structuring, by conducting market analysis, assessing contractor capacity and competitiveness, and supporting sourcing and onboarding activities to strengthen procurement and contracting decisions.
- Oversee post-award contract management and the contract lifecycle by tracking key commercial terms,
milestones, change orders, claims, amendments, renewals, disputes, commercial close-outs, and post-mortems to improve governance, accountability, and project control.
- Support RFP development, bid evaluations, vendor selection, commercial KPIs, contractor performance evaluation, audit-ready documentation, and continuous improvement of commercial policies, controls, and best practices to enable scalable, compliant, and data-informed project contracting processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Law, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in commercial contract management, project development, project management, or construction within infrastructure or large-scale construction environments.
- Strong experience negotiating construction, purchase, or large-scale vendor agreements.
- Solid understanding of risk allocation in construction projects, including indemnities, limitation of liability, liquidated damages, performance guarantees, change management, and termination provisions.
- Familiarity with data center, energy, utilities, or HPC infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret technical, engineering, and financial inputs and translate them into commercially sound contractual terms.
- Strong commercial acumen, project-oriented mindset, understanding of corporate governance and risk management principles, excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, communication, organization, and documentation skills, experience with CLM systems and project governance tools, ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment, and willingness to travel occasionally to U.S. project sites.
