The CaixaResearch Institute is set to become a leading international research centre in the translational study of immunology and the most prevalent diseases. The centre will conduct its own research focused on studying how the immune system works when it interacts with pathologies, such as neurological, oncological, metabolic and infectious diseases, as well as analysing related environmental factors.

Laboratory Manager:

This position is available in Dr. María Martínez-López's laboratory. The lab studies the crosstalk between innate immune cells and the nervous system to understand how this interaction modulates immune function.

The lab is interested in identifying molecular communication pathways between the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems to understand how stress and other factors modulate the immune response. The objective is to contribute to the development of new therapeutic strategies that enhance the immune response and reduce susceptibility to infections and chronic inflammatory diseases, such as cancer. Experimentally, the lab uses different mouse models to investigate the impact of neuroimmune interactions in various disease contexts.

Key responsibilities:

- Support the Group Leader in establishing and managing the new research laboratory at the CaixaResearch Institute, ensuring efficient operations, compliance with safety regulations, and high standards of laboratory organisation.





- Lead and execute experimental work related to the laboratory's research programme, including experimental design, data collection, analysis, troubleshooting, and interpretation of results.

- Contribute scientific and technical expertise to the development, optimisation, and implementation of research methodologies, particularly in neuroimmunology and in vivo mouse models.

- Supervise, train, and support students and new laboratory members, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.

- Maintain accurate laboratory records, monitor resources and equipment, and ensure adherence to quality, health, and safety standards.

- Actively contribute to the laboratory's scientific activities, including research meetings, journal clubs, scientific discussions, and the development of new research initiatives and projects.

We are looking for:

- BSc degree or higher in Immunology, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.

- Hands-on experience with in vivo mouse models, particularly tumour and/or pregnancy models.

- Strong expertise in flow cytometry (multi-colour FACS), including panel design, cell isolation, and data analysis.

- Practical experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques, including RT-qPCR and ELISA.

- Previous experience in laboratory operations and day-to-day lab management.

- Demonstrated ability to design experiments, analyse scientific data,



interpret results, and apply scientific literature to research projects.

- Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work, maintain accurate laboratory records, and manage multiple activities simultaneously.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

- Fluent English (written and spoken); Spanish and/or Catalan are considered an asset.

- Proactive, highly motivated, and able to work independently while recognising when guidance or escalation is required.

Desirable Qualifications

- MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.

- Experience with confocal microscopy and tissue immunofluorescence (IHC/IF).

- Experience isolating immune cells from different mouse tissues.

- Additional expertise in molecular biology techniques and advanced immunological methodologies.
