General Manager | INI Network Office, Brussels

About INI

INI is a globally integrated network of leading independent insurance groups. Its 120+ Member Companies provide locally licensed services across approximately 150 countries, enabling members to deliver seamless multinational non-life insurance programmes to corporate customers. INI also serves as a centre of knowledge, collaboration and capability-building for members, their clients and brokers.

INI’s promise is simple: a multinational client whose home insurer is an INI member can access consistent, locally compliant insurance solutions wherever it operates. Delivering that promise across independent organisations, diverse markets and a changing regulatory and technological environment is at the heart of the General Manager’s mandate.

The Role

The General Manager (GM) is the chief executive of the INI Network Office in Brussels. Reporting to the Chair and accountable to the full INI Board of Directors, the GM leads the Network Office and is responsible for the performance, development and long-term relevance of the Network.

The GM holds two equally important and inseparable mandates:

- Run the Network today — ensuring that the existing infrastructure, member relationships, service-quality standards, compliance obligations, IT platforms, and financial controls operate efficiently and to the high standard that members and their clients expect.
- Build the Network of tomorrow — developing and executing a long-term strategy that strengthens member competitiveness, harnesses emerging technologies, responds to industry consolidation, attracts the next generation of insurance professionals, and ensures INI remains indispensable in a rapidly evolving integral insurance market.

The successful candidate will combine strategic judgement with disciplined execution, balancing long-term development with reliable day-to-day delivery.

Key Accountabilities

The GM is accountable for five integrated areas of performance:

Strategy and Network Development

As determined by the Board, develop and execute a clear multi-year strategy that strengthens INI’s relevance, member value and competitive position. This would include the determination of a specific planning horizon as well as an agreed upon cadence of formal strategy reviews.

- Translate market, regulatory, broker, client and technology trends into focused strategic priorities.
- Identify and address geographic or capability gaps, and lead the recruitment, onboarding or orderly exit of members where required.
- Present the strategy, investment priorities and measurable progress to the Board and General Assembly.

Member Value and Service Quality

Ensure that members and their clients experience consistent, high-quality service across the Network.

- Maintain clear, proportionate service standards and transparent performance information.
- Address service gaps through dialogue, improvement plans, peer learning and, where necessary, escalation to the Board.
- Build trusted relationships with senior and operational leaders across the membership and act as the primary escalation point for material network issues.

Operations, Technology and Data

Lead an efficient, reliable and increasingly digital Network Office, with technology investments aligned to member needs and INI’s strategy.

- Oversee INI’s platforms, data quality, cybersecurity, vendors and user adoption.
- Develop a pragmatic technology and data roadmap, including appropriate use of automation, analytics and artificial intelligence.
- Continuously improve processes, tools and reporting while maintaining operational resilience and cost discipline.

Governance, Finance and Risk

Provide sound governance, financial stewardship and risk management, and enable effective Board decision-making.

- Prepare the annual budget, manage expenditure, coordinate audit activity and report transparently on performance and risks.
- Maintain fit-for-purpose guidelines, procedures and compliance arrangements, including competition-law safeguards.
- Prepare high-quality agendas, papers and recommendations for the Board, General Assembly and relevant advisory bodies.

Leadership and External Representation

Lead and develop the Network Office team, strengthen the INI community and represent the Network credibly with members, brokers and industry stakeholders.

- Lead, develop and motivate the Brussels-based Network Office team, with clear accountabilities and effective succession and knowledge management.
- Create valuable conferences, training and peer-learning opportunities for current and next-generation insurance professionals.
- Represent INI with authority and diplomacy, and ensure that its communications and brand reflect the quality and ambition of the Network.

Candidate Profile

INI is seeking an internationally minded insurance leader who combines strategic perspective,

operational credibility and the ability to influence across a diverse membership.

Essential Experience and Capabilities

- Substantial leadership experience in commercial or industrial non-life insurance, including direct exposure to multinational programme business.
- A strong understanding of cross-border programme structures, member or partner networks, and the needs of multinational clients and brokers.
- Demonstrated success in developing strategy and converting it into focused priorities, delivery plans and measurable outcomes.
- Experience leading a team or business unit with budget responsibility and working effectively with Boards or senior governance bodies.
- Sound technology and data judgement, including experience sponsoring digital change and managing specialist vendors or partners.
- Fluent written and spoken English; additional languages are an asset.

Leadership Qualities

- Strategic and pragmatic: able to set direction while remaining close enough to operations to ensure delivery.
- Influential and diplomatic: builds trust across cultures and aligns independent stakeholders without relying on formal authority.
- Clear and persuasive: communicates complex issues simply and represents INI confidently at senior level.
- Decisive and accountable: prioritises, follows through and addresses difficult issues constructively.

- A prioritised technology and data roadmap linked to member value, operational efficiency and sound risk management.
- A high-performing Network Office with clear roles, effective working practices and robust knowledge continuity.
