About the Role:

We are seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to join our Cyber & Platform Development Team.

In this role, you will shape the backend architecture and technical direction of our platforms while remaining hands-on in the design and delivery of reliable services and APIs. You will work with Python and Node.js across interconnected systems, including messaging and data processing.

You will co-own the backend technology stack with other technical leaders, guide engineering decisions across teams, and mentor developers.



You will balance scalability, security, maintainability, and delivery needs in an agile (Scrum) environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Backend Architecture: Define and evolve the architecture of services and APIs, with attention to scalability, performance, reliability, and security.
- Hands-on Engineering: Design, develop, and review backend services using Python (Django or FastAPI) and Node.js; work with databases and message brokers such as RabbitMQ.
- Technical Leadership: Co-own the backend technology stack with other principals and lead backend councils to agree on standards, architectural choices, and implementation plans.
- Cross-System Collaboration: Build an understanding of dependent systems and work with product managers, architects, DevOps, and other engineering teams to align technical decisions with business goals.
- DevOps and Reliability: Improve CI/CD workflows, deployment practices, monitoring, and logging in collaboration with the teams responsible for platform operations.
- Delivery and Quality: Break down complex work, identify technical risks early, and help teams deliver through testing, peer reviews, documentation, and sound engineering practices.
- Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing: Support mid-level and junior engineers through design discussions, code reviews, and coaching; share knowledge across teams.
- Technology Evaluation: Assess new backend technologies and practices, and guide their adoption when they improve the product without compromising stability.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

- Extensive professional experience in backend software development, including technical leadership and ownership of production systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python and Node.js, with experience designing REST APIs and integrating SQL or NoSQL databases.
- Experience designing distributed systems or microservices and working with message brokers such as RabbitMQ or similar.
- Proven ability to make architectural trade-offs involving scalability, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Hands-on experience with Git, automated testing, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience mentoring engineers and facilitating technical decisions across teams.
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and work effectively in an agile (Scrum) environment.

Nice to Have:

- Knowledge or background in telecommunications technologies and related protocols.
- Experience with database migration tools such as Alembic.
- Experience with Docker and container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm.
- Experience with monitoring,



logging, and observability tools.
- Development experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
