Overview of the Role

As a Senior UX Designer for the Speaking Tutor product, you will take end-to-end ownership of the design and user experience for an advanced AI-driven speaking practice solution. This pivotal role requires you to define, design, and iterate a seamless experience for both learners and educators, directly influencing the learning outcomes and engagement of users worldwide. You will architect intuitive voice interactions, scalable component systems, and actionable feedback mechanisms, ensuring the Speaking Tutor product sets the benchmark for AI-powered learning platforms.

Detailed Responsibilities

- Lead the complete UX design lifecycle for the Speaking Tutor product, encompassing onboarding, live AI conversation practice, feedback delivery, and progress visualization.
- Set and evolve the overall design direction, ensuring cohesive, user-centered experiences that align with product vision and market needs.
- Design innovative real-time voice interactions, addressing challenges such as turn-taking, latency, interruptions, and error recovery.
- Translate AI-generated feedback on fluency, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary into clear, actionable, and encouraging user experiences.




- Develop reusable design components and scalable patterns in Figma to accommodate various conversation types, scenarios, and language proficiency levels.
- Create interactive prototypes for usability testing and seamless handoff to engineering teams.
- Leverage user research, data analytics, and real-world practice sessions to inform design decisions and validate new features.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, data analysts, and leadership to define the product roadmap and launch strategies.
- Drive launch readiness, monitor post-launch metrics, and iterate rapidly based on user feedback and performance signals.
- Champion a user-focused design culture, integrating accessibility and inclusivity best practices, especially for diverse language learners.

Skill Requirements

- Minimum 5 years of experience designing digital products, with a strong portfolio demonstrating systems thinking and end-to-end ownership.
- Expert proficiency in Figma, including component libraries and advanced prototyping.
- Proven track record of leading product or major feature design from concept through to launch.
- Hands-on experience with AI prototyping tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude code, Codex).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with data analysts and interpret quantitative insights.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (C1 level or higher).




- Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and running design experiments.

Other Requirements (Optional)

- Experience designing voice, conversational, or audio-first user interfaces.
- Familiarity with AI/LLM output design, including handling non-deterministic responses, confidence, trust, and failure states.
- Awareness of audio-first accessibility needs (e.g., captions, support for noisy environments, hearing and speech differences).
- Experience supporting quantitative experiments and A/B testing.
- Background in education technology or learning product design.
- Experience designing for English as a second language (ESL) learners.
- Agile team experience with iterative delivery and sprint cycles.
- T-shaped designer profile: deep expertise in technical design, with strong research and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated empathy for language learners and understanding of the challenges of speaking a new language.
