About BIOMAT

BIOMAT has been awarded as A+ Research Group by the Basque Government. The main research lines of the group are:

- Biorefinery processes for the extraction of biopolymers and bioactive compounds
- Modification of biopolymers and optimisation of formulations
- Optimisation of biopolymer manufacturing processes
- Environmental assessment of biorefinery processes
- Bio-based products for environmental remediation, food and health-related applications and tissue engineering.

Research environment

The successful candidate will join BIOMAT group and will have access to facilities related to the physicochemical characterization and manufacture of polymeric materials:

- Extrusion and Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printing




- 3D printing combined with electrospinning
- Rheological analyses
- Infrared and UV-vis spectroscopy
- X-ray diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopy
- Mechanical testing (tensile, compression, mucoadhesion)
- Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)

Candidate profile

- Bachelor s and Master s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Strong academic record
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Strong motivation to develop an academic career in an interdisciplinary group

Additional Information

A 3-year full-time PhD contract, with a salary of 20 k€/year approximately and tentative starting time in January 2027. The successful candidate will join BIOMAT group and will have access to facilities related to the physicochemical characterization and manufacture of polymeric materials. The candidate will receive training in characterization techniques and will have opportunities to perform experiments, discuss results and present them at international conferences, as well as to participate in international mobility actions.
