Cybersecurity Engineer - Security Engineering & Vulnerability Management (EU agency via Unisys)

About the Opportunity

Our client, a key European institution supporting cooperation and decision-making across the European Union, is looking for a Cybersecurity Engineer to join its Cybersecurity Operations environment.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a highly specialized cybersecurity team responsible for strengthening cyber resilience, protecting critical information systems and continuously improving security operations. You will contribute to the engineering, deployment and optimization of security services supporting large-scale enterprise infrastructures in a demanding and security-sensitive environment.

Role Overview

As a Cybersecurity Engineer, you will support the Cybersecurity Engineering function by designing, deploying and maintaining secure infrastructure and cybersecurity services.

You will work closely with infrastructure teams, cloud operations teams, security operations specialists and external partners to improve vulnerability management processes, security automation capabilities and the overall cybersecurity posture of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Security Engineering & Infrastructure

- Deploy, manage and harden Linux, Windows and VMware ESXi server environments.
- Design, orchestrate and deploy infrastructure and services that improve the availability, scalability, efficiency and resilience of cybersecurity services.
- Configure, maintain and secure network infrastructure components including firewalls, routers, switches and VPN gateways.
- Support cloud infrastructure security across AWS and Azure environments.

Automation & Development

- Develop custom scripts and automation solutions to streamline security operations.
- Build integrations between security platforms and infrastructure tools using APIs.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks and improve service efficiency.
- Support the development of resilient and scalable cybersecurity services.

Vulnerability Management

- Manage the full vulnerability lifecycle across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Perform vulnerability identification, assessment, prioritization and remediation tracking.
- Coordinate remediation activities across multiple technical teams.
- Validate remediation efforts and monitor progress against security objectives.




- Produce vulnerability assessment reports, dashboards, metrics and remediation plans.

Security Operations & Monitoring

- Support cybersecurity operations through continuous security improvement initiatives.
- Monitor risk exposure and identify high-risk assets.
- Track vulnerability trends, threat exposure and operational KPIs.
- Collaborate with Security Operations Centre (SOC) teams, infrastructure teams and technology providers.
- Contribute to cybersecurity posture assessments and risk management activities.

Documentation & Reporting

- Produce technical documentation for engineers and operational teams.
- Document procedures, solutions and security processes.
- Report security findings, remediation progress and operational metrics to stakeholders and management.
- Support knowledge transfer and operational maturity initiatives.

Profile Requirements

Mandatory Experience

- Proven experience in cybersecurity engineering or security operations environments.
- Strong experience administering Linux, Windows and VMware ESXi infrastructures.
- Experience securing and managing enterprise network environments.
- Experience managing vulnerability assessment and remediation activities.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
- Experience integrating technologies through APIs and automation workflows.
- Experience working in complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders.

Required Technical Skills

- Advanced scripting skills using Python and Bash.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VPN technologies and firewall administration.
- Experience with enterprise vulnerability management tools such as Nessus, Rapid7 Nexpose or equivalent.
- Experience with SIEM platforms such as Splunk.
- Experience with ticketing and workflow management tools such as ServiceNow and Jira.
- Knowledge of containerized environments and technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of DevSecOps principles and modern security practices.




- Knowledge of cybersecurity and cyber threat intelligence concepts.
- Familiarity with messaging and event-streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar technologies.

Preferred Skills

- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Knowledge of cloud-native security architectures.
- Experience with Java, Go, Rust or other programming languages.
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments.
- Experience working in highly regulated or security-sensitive environments.

Education Requirements

- Higher education degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology or a related field.
- Equivalent qualification corresponding to at least the European Qualifications Framework requirements for the requested seniority level.

Languages

- English: C1 level or higher.
- Knowledge of French or other EU languages is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

- Expected Start Date: October 2026.
- Initial Contract Duration: 12 months.
- Potential Duration: Until May 2029 with possible extension phase.
- Location: Brussels, Belgium.
- Primarily on-site with potential teleworking arrangements subject to approval.
- Standard business hours with occasional flexibility depending on operational needs.

Security Requirements

- Candidates must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a SECRET UE / EU SECRET Security Clearance.
- The role may involve access to classified information and secure environments.
