The organisation is looking for a highly experienced, technically authoritative professional with a minimum of 12–15 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, including substantial responsibility for conceptual, basic and detailed design. This will be the most senior electrical engineering role in the Energy organisation and will act as Technical Lead for a group of approx. five more junior engineers, supporting their development and ensuring technical quality across the discipline.
General Objectives
As Senior Electrical Engineer, the selected candidate will lead and/or carry out the design of electrical systems for renewable generation projects, from early-stage feasibility and conceptual layouts through basic and detailed engineering. The role will cover onshore wind, solar PV, BESS, hybrid plants and offshore renewable systems as well as transmission and distribution networks, with a strong focus on grid connection infrastructure, substations, overhead lines, HV/MV/LV networks, and electrical protection and control systems. The position will provide the highest level of electrical technical authority within the Energy organisation and will supervise the work of a team of approx. five junior engineers.
The main responsibilities will include:
This is a senior technical leadership position requiring proven experience setting design criteria, reviewing and approving engineering deliverables, resolving complex technical issues, coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces and representing the electrical discipline in front of clients, grid operators, developers, EPC contractors and internal management.
Developing conceptual, basic and detailed electrical designs for renewable generation assets, including LV, MV and HV systems.
Designing and reviewing substations, overhead lines,
underground cable systems, internal collection networks and grid connection infrastructure.
Preparing and reviewing single-line diagrams, layouts, cable routing, equipment sizing, protection and control philosophies, relay coordination concepts, earthing systems, technical specifications and design reports.
Carrying out or supervising electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, voltage profile, losses, reactive power, grid compliance and connection feasibility studies.
Designing and reviewing electrical protection and control systems, including protection schemes, control architectures, interlocking logic, relay settings inputs, SCADA interfaces and integration with substation automation systems.
Using and coordinating design tools such as PLS-CADD for overhead line engineering and DigSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, ETAP or equivalent tools for electrical network modelling.
Supporting Owner’s Engineering, technical due diligence, tender design, EPC documentation review and construction-phase technical support.
Coordinating interfaces with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, SCADA, communications and renewable technology teams.
Providing technical input to proposals, client discussions, risk assessments and project planning activities.
Acting as Technical Lead for a group of five junior engineers, assigning work, reviewing and approving technical deliverables, mentoring team members and helping to develop internal design criteria, calculation templates, quality processes and lessons learned.
Project typologies The role will involve participation in projects across different stages of development:
Onshore wind farms, solar PV plants, BESS and hybrid renewable generation assets.
Offshore wind and offshore renewable systems
Transmission & distribution networks as well as grid interfaces and connection infrastructure of generation systems. Substations and related equipment and systems.
Overhead lines, underground cables, collection systems and auxiliary LV/MV systems.
Feasibility studies, conceptual engineering, basic engineering and detailed design.
Tender engineering, EPC technical specifications, Owner’s Engineering and technical due diligence.
Construction support, commissioning support, asset management and repowering or lifetime-extension studies.
