Junior Software & Hardware Integration Engineer

Nanological is a Madrid-based deep-tech company developing rapid diagnostic technologies for bloodstream infections and sepsis. Our proprietary platform, SOMIA, combines microfluidics, optomechanical sensing and AI-powered data analysis to identify pathogens directly from blood, with the goal of enabling faster clinical decision-making in critical care.

Role Description

We are looking for a Junior Software & Hardware Integration Engineer to support the development, integration and automation of the hardware components of our measurement system.

You will develop software to control scientific instrumentation, electronics, sensors, actuators and positioning systems, integrating them into automated acquisition and measurement workflows. You will work closely with our R&D; team in a hands-on laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities:

- Developing software for hardware control and integration.
- Automating signal acquisition and measurement workflows.
- Communicating with instrumentation through APIs, drivers and communication protocols.
- Integrating sensors, actuators, positioning systems and acquisition electronics.
- Developing automated calibration, alignment and characterization routines.
- Synchronizing motion, acquisition and data processing.
- Implementing diagnostic tools, logging and error handling.




- Supporting laboratory testing and validation of new functionalities.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, Industrial or Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Python programming skills.
- Fundamentals of electronics and instrumentation.
- Basic knowledge of signal acquisition and processing.
- Understanding of hardware-software integration.
- Ability to understand and troubleshoot experimental systems.
- Interest in working directly with hardware and developing control and automation systems for scientific instrumentation.

Nice to have:

- FPGA/HDL.
- Experience with hardware communication protocols such as Serial/UART, USB, Ethernet/TCP-IP, SPI or I²C.
- Familiarity with Linux environments.
- Git and good software development practices.

We are looking for a junior profile, so relevant academic projects, internships, final degree/master’s projects and hands-on technical projects are valued.
