Offer Description

Applications are invited by the University of Alicante President to participate in a recruitment process for research staff (contract type: open-ended contract; job category: senior technologist) to collaborate with the funded line of research “Mining, biodiversity and society”. Reference: I-PTGAI 45-26

First. General terms.

1.1. Purpose of the call

The purpose of this call is to recruit research staff (job category:senior technologist) in the framework of the projects included in the funded line of research “Mining, biodiversity and society”.

Second. Requirements for applicants.

Compliance with the requirements listed below must always refer to the date of expiry of the deadline for the submission of applications and must be maintained until the date of entering into the contract.Applicants must:

2.1. General requirements

2.1.1. Have Spanish nationality or be in one of the situations listed in article 57 of Royal Legislative Decree 5/2015, of 30 October, which approves Primary Statute of Public Employees consolidated text (BOE of 31 October). In the case established in point 4 of this article, when legal residence in Spain is required, candidates must hold it at the time of entering into contract.

2.1.2. Have a good command of any of the official languages of the Valencia Region for the performance of the job.

2.1.3. Be at least 16 years of age and not be over the maximum age for compulsory retirement.

2.1.4. Possess the physical and mental capacities and aptitudes that are necessary for the performance of the relevant duties and tasks.

2.1.5. Not be disqualified by final judgement or as a result of having been dismissed for disciplinary reasons to perform duties similar to those of the relevant professional category. Nationals of other countries must not be disqualified or in an equivalent situation, nor have been subject to a disciplinary or equivalent punishment that prevents access to public employment in the same terms in their own country.

2.2. Specific requirements

2.2.1. Hold or be in the process of obtaining a 1st-cycle undergraduate degree, an engineering technology degree, an architectural technology degree or equivalent. In the case of qualifications obtained overseas, a statement of comparability or equivalent must be provided. Applicants who are not in possession of the degree certificate must provide proof of payment of the diploma issuing fee or submit an academic certificate stating that they have completed all the studies leading to the award of said certificate.

Under no circumstances will qualifications corresponding to the MECES level of official 4-year undergraduate degrees—belonging to academic systems prior to the European Higher Education Area regulated by Royal Decree 889/2022, of 18 October, in accordance with the provisions of the fourth additional provision of the aforementioned Royal Decree—be considered as qualifications equivalent to MECES undergraduate degrees. Likewise, holding a Master’s degree, a 1st-cycle undergraduate degree,a 1st-cycle engineering technology degree, a 1st-cycle architectural technology degree will not be considered equivalent.





PhD or Master’s degrees do not, in themselves, constitute qualifications that qualify for access to public employment.

2.2.2. Have a B2 level of English.

2.2.3. Hold a type B driving licence.

2.2.4. Be available to carry out fieldwork – sometimes in remote areas – and travel.

ANNEX I

purpose of call I-PTGAI 45-26 and job profile

Project PID OA-I00 funded by MICIU/AEI/ / and by the ERDF-EU

This project is carried out in accordance with Order CIN/1025/2022, of 27 October, and its amendments (Order CNU/1459/2023, of 26 de December, and Order CNU/307/2024, of 4 April), which approves the regulatory basis for the award of public funding under various programmes and subprogrammes of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation , managed by the Spanish State Research Agency, according to the procedure for the accelerated implementation of funding programmes, for the year 2024, targeted at “Knowledge Generation Projects” and pre-doctoral research staff training actions associated with these projects, in the framework of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation .

1. First project in which the successful applicant will collaborate:

1.1. Name of the project:“From Evidence to Action: Predicting and Mitigating Biodiversity Impacts in Construction Mineral Extraction”.

1.3. Funding agency: Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and Spanish State Research Agency.

2. Number of vacancies and features of the job vacancy.

2.1. Number of job vacancies: one.

2.2. Job position:senior technologist.

2.3. Working hours: full-time position, morning/afternoon sessions.

2.4. Remuneration: €1,925.00 gross/monthly(each monthly payment includes the amount corresponding to the extra payment for that month).

2.5. Tasks to be carried out:

- Conducting spatial analyses using geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing, including the spatiotemporal mapping of mining operations and the management of geospatial databases.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of large-scale predictive models to evaluate the impacts of mining on biodiversity and ecosystems.
- Extracting, organising and coding information from databases and scholarly literature for systematic reviews and other analyses conducted within the project.
- Assisting in fieldwork campaigns related to the project, including the following tasks: validation of cartography, vegetation sampling, and installation, maintenance and monitoring of acoustic sensors and camera traps, as needed at any given time and taking into account the extent to which the technical objectives have been achieved.
- Assisting in the organisation, processing, integration and quality assurance of data generated throughout the project, supporting the implementation of research activities and the coordination between team members.
- Preparing dissemination materials (in English and Spanish) and carrying out the technical tasks involved in the publication process.

3.1. Official academic qualifications (maximum 2 points). The following qualifications will be considered for this job vacancy:

- Undergraduate degree in Environmental Biology, in Biology,



in Environmental Sciences or in Forestry and Environmental Engineering (Spanish MECES level 2 or EQF level 6), or any other undergraduate degree with equivalent content.
- Master’s degree in Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration of the Marine and Terrestrial Environment (Spanish MECES level 3 or EQF level 7) or any other Master’s degree with equivalent content.

3.2. Experience (maximum 3 points): applicants having conducted tasks and activities under an employment contract (in any field) or administrative contractual arrangement (other than for teaching activities) will receive 1 point per full year of service (or the proportional part for periods of less than one year; only full months count). The applicant’s experience must be related to the tasks to be conducted, to the job description herein or to:

- Ecology, ecosystem restoration and conservation biology applied to research projects in mining environments.
- Use of GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and management of spatial databases.
- Programming languages for data analysis (R or Python).
- Techniques for collecting and processing field data related to biodiversity (vegetation sampling, camera trapping, acoustic sensors and index calculation).

3.3. Additional training (maximum 3 points). Training related to the tasks to be conducted, to the job description herein or to:

- Ecology, ecosystem restoration and conservation biology applied to research projects in mining environments.
- Use of GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and management of spatial databases.
- Programming languages for data analysis (R or Python).

3.4. Knowledge of English (maximum1 point): only levels higher than that required in section 2 of the call for applications will be considered, in accordance with the Regulations establishing the University of Alicante foreign language certificates and the equivalence with other qualifications and certificates, approved by the Governing Council on 26 February 2026, BOUA of 27 February 2026 ( ). The score assigned for each level is specified below:

Only the highest level accredited will be taken into account.

3.5. Academic CV: maximum 5 points.

Only those academic achievements related to the tasks to the conducted and to the job description herein will be considered. The score is calculated as follows:

- Academic record of the degrees mentioned in section 3.1 of this annex: up to a maximum of 2 points, according to this formula:

were C i states the number of credits of the course and N i refers to the corresponding grade (Pass= 1; Outstanding = 2; Distinction = 3; Distinction with Honours = 4) and nc stands for the number of courses of the relevant degree.In this section, doctorates will not be taken into account and the highest average mark from among the academic certificates of the other qualifications listed in section 3.1 of this annex will be considered.

- Scientific publications (articles, books, journals, etc.) and patents: up to 1 point.
- Collaborations in research activities: up to 0.50 points.
- Communications, papers and posters at conferences, meetings and seminars: up to 1 point.
- Research visits in other centres or organisations carrying out activities directly related to the tasks to be carried out and to the job profile (sections 2 and 3 of this annex): up to 0.50 points.
