Offer Description

We offer a fully funded 48-month PhD position. The PhD student will focus on the control of bioorthogonal reactions by mechanical bond (rotaxanes). The work will imply the synthesis of interlocked molecules (and their non-interlocked analogues), which are able to undergo a biorthogonal reaction on the axle of the rotaxane. Once synthesized and characterized, the kinetics of the biorthogonal reaction will be tested, and the effect of the macrocycle around the axle will be evaluated. Rotaxanes able to respond to specific biological environments will then be employed to test the control of the bioorthogonal reactions in cells. Controlled drug release or sensing will be some of the final aims.

Skills/Qualifications

We seek candidates who are in possession of an MSc in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.

Specific Requirements

Experience in supramolecular chemistry, bioorthogonal chemistry and/or biomedicinal chemistry will be highly considered. Good knowledge of English is required.

Additional Information

Net salary (after taxes): 1825€/month. Additionally, there is an associated funding to cover short stays or any administrative costs.
