Senior C++ Software Engineer – Hardware-Connected Systems

Barcelona, Spain | Hybrid – typically 2 days onsite per week

We’re looking for an experienced, hands‑on C++ engineer who enjoys developing Windows software, working close to real hardware and solving challenging integration and performance problems.

You’ll join the Barcelona R&D; team of a large, established general technology company, developing software for complex, high‑performance hardware systems within a long‑term engineering programme.

The role combines application and system‑level development with device communication, hardware interfaces and data processing. It would suit someone who enjoys understanding how the complete system works and investigating problems across software and hardware boundaries.

What You’ll Work On

- Develop and maintain modern C++ software, primarily using C++17
- Build Windows applications and system components that communicate with specialised devices and hardware
- Develop multithreaded software and improve performance, reliability and data handling
- Investigate integration issues across application code, interfaces, drivers and connected equipment
- Work with technologies including PCIe and Ethernet for high‑speed data transfer
- Support system integration, debugging, validation and testing within an R&D;/lab environment
- Work primarily on Windows, with some Linux development





What We’re Looking For

- Strong commercial experience developing substantial applications or system software in modern C++
- Proven experience developing C++ software that runs on Windows
- Experience with hardware‑connected software, device communication or comparable systems integration
- A good understanding of multithreading, concurrency and performance optimisation
- Strong debugging skills and a practical, methodical approach to solving technical problems
- The ability to take ownership of your work and collaborate with an international engineering team
- Hybrid working – typically 2 days per week onsite in Barcelona
- An established, ongoing R&D; programme with long‑term scope

Useful, but not essential: experience with instrumentation, PCIe, Ethernet, device drivers, data acquisition or high‑throughput streaming.

You don’t need experience with every technology listed. Strong Windows C++ development and transferable hardware‑facing systems experience are the priorities. Relevant backgrounds could include industrial automation, scientific or medical equipment, simulators, robotics and other device‑connected applications.
