About the role Altery is looking for an experienced
Alternate Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer (Alternate AMLCO)
to join Altery EU Limited and strengthen our Second Line Compliance function in Cyprus.
Working closely with the AMLCO, you will act as a senior compliance partner and trusted deputy, taking ownership of key AML/CFT and compliance activities and formally stepping into the AMLCO role when required. This is not simply a regulatory backup position. We are looking for someone with the experience and judgement to work independently, provide credible challenge to the business, translate regulatory requirements into practical solutions, and help continuously strengthen our compliance framework as the business grows.
What We're Looking For
Significant experience in AML/CFT, financial crime or regulatory compliance within a regulated financial institution.
Strong Second Line Compliance experience and the ability to provide independent advice and challenge to the business.
Experience within electronic money, payments or fintech is highly relevant; strong banking or other EU-regulated financial services backgrounds will also be considered.
Solid knowledge of the EU AML/CFT regulatory framework. Cyprus regulatory and Central Bank of Cyprus experience is highly desirable but not essential.
Hands-on experience across several areas such as policy development, AML/CFT risk assessment, compliance monitoring, sanctions, KYC/EDD, transaction monitoring, SARs and regulatory reporting.
Strong regulatory judgement and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical business guidance.
Sufficient seniority and expertise to operate autonomously, take ownership and assume AMLCO responsibilities when required.
Confidence working with senior stakeholders, auditors, regulators and governance bodies.
High professional integrity and sound judgement when handling sensitive financial crime and regulatory matters.
Previous experience as an AMLCO or Alternate AMLCO is an advantage, but not a requirement where the candidate has sufficient senior compliance experience.
Nice to have: ICA, ACAMS or equivalent professional qualification; experience with crypto-assets, MiCA and Travel Rule requirements.
What You'll Do
Act as the formally appointed Alternate AMLCO, supporting and deputising for the AMLCO when required.
Own and enhance key AML/CFT and compliance policies and procedures, including localisation of Group frameworks for Cyprus regulatory requirements.
Provide independent Second Line advice and challenge on AML/CFT, sanctions, KYC, EDD, transaction monitoring and high-risk customer matters.
Support and oversee the Compliance Monitoring Programme, ensuring findings and remediation actions are appropriately addressed.
Review complex financial crime escalations and suspicious activity reports, supporting reporting to MOKAS and other authorities where required.
Contribute to financial crime risk assessments and the ongoing enhancement of the AML/CFT control framework.
Provide Second Line oversight of relevant outsourcing and third-party arrangements.
Support regulatory reporting, governance and engagement with the Central Bank of Cyprus, auditors and other competent authorities.
Work closely with Operations, Risk, Product and other teams to turn regulatory requirements into practical and effective controls.
Identify opportunities to improve existing compliance processes and ways of working.
