We are looking for a veterinary assistant intern for the duration of 3 to 12 months, during which you will be assisting and learning from our veterinary team on-site

Your role as a veterinary assistant intern

As a Veterinary Assistant Intern at the rescue centre, you play an important role in improving the health and welfare of the animals, always under the supervision of our veterinary team. You assist with daily medical procedures, health monitoring, treatments, and preventative care for a wide variety of animal species.

Through first-hand experience, you contribute to the physical recovery and wellbeing of the animals while learning about wildlife medicine, animal welfare, rehabilitation, and rescue operations. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop practical veterinary skills in a dynamic rescue centre environment dedicated to providing the highest standards of animal care.

Key responsibilities

- Assisting veterinarians and veterinary assistants during examinations and treatments.
- Supporting the preparation and administration of medications, medical supplies, and sample management.
- Monitoring animal health and behaviour and reporting observations to the veterinary team.
- Assisting with routine health checks, sample collection, and diagnostic procedures.
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in veterinary facilities and treatment areas.
- Supporting medical record keeping and data collection.




- Contributing to animal welfare assessments and rehabilitation programs.

Requirements for becoming a veterinary assistant intern

- Be at least 18 years old.
- Must have completed some veterinary education, either by being a vet technician with more than two years of experience or being a graduate veterinarian with less than 2 years of experience.
- Must be available for on-call assistance shift one week out of every 3.
- Passion for animal welfare and good physical condition.
- Basic level of English (spoken and written).
- Ability to work in an orderly and independent manner, according to protocols, as well as in a team.
- Commitment to hygiene and safety protocols.

Here are some of the benefits we offer:

- Paid on-call duty after training completion.
- Petrol compensation of 0,26€ per km with a maximum of 200km (round trip) or transport from Villena in the volunteers´ van for internship days. During paid-on call, different reimbursement will be provided.
- Lunch compensation of 3,86€ per internship day (only applicable for full-time work, not applicable for part-time work).
