Freelance AI Governance & Compliance Advisor

Context

A leading energy & utilities organisation is looking for a Freelance AI Governance & Compliance Advisor to help embed responsible AI across the business. You'll work at the intersection of AI, risk and compliance, ensuring AI solutions are developed and deployed in line with the EU AI Act, GDPR and enterprise governance standards while supporting business teams with practical, scalable AI governance.

Responsibilities

- Advise on the implementation of the EU AI Act, GDPR and Responsible AI principles
- Conduct AI risk assessments, FRIAs, DPIAs and compliance reviews
- Develop AI governance policies, frameworks, controls and operating models
- Embed AI governance into existing business and delivery processes
- Collaborate with business, IT, legal, procurement, security and data governance teams




- Monitor AI governance KPIs and support AI Governance Boards and steering committees
- Promote AI awareness and support the adoption of compliant AI practices across the organisation

Requirements

- 2–3+ years' experience in AI governance, data governance, compliance or a related field
- Strong knowledge of the EU AI Act, GDPR, Responsible AI and AI risk management
- Experience conducting AI impact assessments (FRIA, DPIA or similar)
- Strong stakeholder management and the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance
- Experience working in regulated or complex enterprise environments
- Fluent English and Dutch OR French (mandatory)

Nice to Have

- Experience with AI governance or AI lifecycle management platforms
- Knowledge of AWS, Snowflake or modern AI/data platforms
- Background in data governance or information security
