IT System Engineer | Antwerp

Our Client is looking for an experienced IT System Engineer to strengthen its IT infrastructure team in Antwerp, Belgium.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining and continuously improving the IT infrastructure within a critical operational and logistics environment. You will work closely with internal IT teams and external technology partners and play an important role in ensuring the availability, performance, security and reliability of the infrastructure.

This is a permanent employment opportunity for an experienced System Engineer who enjoys working hands-on with infrastructure, troubleshooting complex technical issues and contributing to modernization and automation projects.

Your responsibilities

As an IT System Engineer, you will:

- Install, configure, maintain and optimize IT infrastructure components.
- Perform system upgrades, patching, migrations and lifecycle management.
- Manage and support Windows Server and Linux environments.
- Administer and maintain VMware virtualized environments, preferably VMware vSphere.
- Monitor infrastructure availability, capacity and performance and take proactive action when required.
- Troubleshoot complex incidents escalated by the Service Desk and provide 2nd/3rd line technical support.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Document technical solutions, procedures, configurations and infrastructure changes.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams, application teams and external suppliers.




- Contribute to infrastructure modernization initiatives, including the adoption of Microsoft Azure and Linux-based core applications.
- Identify opportunities for standardization, automation and simplification of infrastructure processes.
- Support security, reliability and availability improvements across the infrastructure.
- Participate in an on-call / standby rotation for critical incidents outside normal working hours.

Your profile

We are looking for a hands-on IT System Engineer with several years of experience in system administration and infrastructure environments.

You ideally have:

- A Bachelor's degree in IT or an equivalent level of experience.
- Several years of professional experience in System Administration, Infrastructure Engineering or System Engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server environments.
- Solid knowledge of Linux systems; experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is a strong advantage.
- Experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi and/or related virtualization technologies.
- Good understanding of fundamental networking concepts, including:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- DHCP
- VLAN
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.




- Experience handling complex infrastructure incidents and performing Root Cause Analysis.
- Experience with patch management, upgrades and infrastructure maintenance.
- A proactive approach to monitoring and preventing infrastructure issues.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for critical incidents.
