Ready to be a #Challenger?
What are we looking for? ?
AI Labs is Insud Pharma’s applied AI and advanced engineering team. We develop and deploy technologies that create measurable impact across laboratories, manufacturing, R&D;, and other areas of the company.
We are expanding our automation and robotics capability and recruiting several engineers with complementary backgrounds in laboratory automation, scientific instrumentation, robotics, autonomous systems, and physical AI.
Depending on your background, you may focus more deeply on laboratory automation and systems integration, working with technology partners to deliver and scale automation pilots, or on robotics and autonomous systems, combining near-term deployments with longer-term work in advanced robotics and physical AI.
You will join at an early stage and help build this capability from the ground up: identifying high-value opportunities, designing technical solutions, integrating hardware and software, and taking systems from prototype through pilot deployment and, where successful, toward operational scale.
How the team works:
AI Labs combines the pace and ownership of a startup with the reach and resources of an international pharmaceutical group.
Our culture is collaborative, practical, and technically ambitious. We prototype quickly, test ideas against real operational problems, and invest in the engineering required to turn successful pilots into reliable systems.
These positions are based in our Madrid office and involve hands-on collaboration with laboratories, manufacturing sites, equipment vendors, technology partners, universities, and research organization.
The challenge!
Your focus will depend on your experience and specialization. You may:
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to automate laboratory processes, experimental workflows,
and other physical operations.
- Design and deploy systems that connect scientific instruments, sensors, robotics, automation equipment, software, data platforms, and AI capabilities.
- Integrate laboratory instruments and automation platforms, creating reliable interfaces between physical equipment and digital workflows.
- Develop control and orchestration software for laboratory automation, intelligent instrumentation, robotic workcells, and autonomous experimentation.
- Work with technology partners, system integrators, and equipment vendors to define, deliver, and scale automation pilots while helping establish the architectures, interfaces, and engineering capabilities that Insud should own internally.
- Develop robotics capabilities including manipulation, sensing, localization, navigation, motion planning, and control.
- Use ROS 2 and relevant laboratory, industrial, and software engineering frameworks to build maintainable and operationally robust systems.
- Develop and lead prototypes and pilot deployments, evaluating technical feasibility, robustness, usability, and business value.
- Explore longer-term opportunities in advanced robotics, autonomous systems, physical AI, and autonomous experimentation, translating promising advances into future capabilities and practical applications.
- Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap and help build a specialized automation and robotics capability within AI Labs.
What do you need?
We are looking for engineers with hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:
Laboratory automation · Scientific instrumentation · Robotics · Mechatronics · Autonomous systems · Industrial automation · Physical systems integration
Across these profiles, we value:
- Experience delivering automation or robotics projects that combine software with physical equipment, instruments, sensors, or control systems.
- Software engineering skills and practical experience integrating heterogeneous hardware and software.
- Understanding of relevant fundamentals such as sensing, control, orchestration, motion, manipulation, or instrumentation.
- Hands-on experience with relevant automation, robotics, or instrumentation frameworks.
- The ability to prototype quickly and turn promising concepts into practical, reliable engineering solutions.
- Problem-solving skills and comfort working in an environment where requirements and technologies evolve.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with scientists, engineers, operational teams, and external partners.
- Professional proficiency in English. Spanish is highly valued.
For robotics-focused positions, experience with ROS or ROS 2 is highly valued, but it is not required for every opening.
Particularly valuable experience
- Laboratory or experimental workflow automation and scientific instrument integration.
- Autonomous experimentation, closed-loop optimization, or human-in-the-loop automation.
- Robotic manipulation, mobile robotics, or mobile manipulation.
- Equipment integration using APIs, SDKs, industrial protocols, or laboratory automation interfaces.
- Taking automation or robotics systems beyond proof of concept into validated pilots or operational environments.
- Working with equipment manufacturers, system integrators, universities, startups, or research organizations.
- Technical leadership, mentoring, or experience helping establish a new engineering capability.
Why these roles matter
You will have the opportunity to help build Insud Pharma’s automation and robotics capability from the beginning and shape how intelligent physical systems are designed, integrated, deployed, and scaled across laboratories and operations.
Our goal is not only to deliver individual pilots. We aim to build a reusable capability that connects automation, robotics, data, and AI across Insud Pharma.
