Overview

As Employment Counsel in Thomson Reuters' Employment and Labor Group (ELG) within the General Counsel's Office, you counsel HR and business leaders across Europe, the Middle East and Africa on complex employment matters, investigations, reorganizations, and regulatory compliance. You shape multi-jurisdictional labor strategies and oversee litigation with cross-functional partners. This role blends advisory and litigation work in a fast-paced, global environment, with a strong emphasis on scalable playbooks and responsible risk management.

You will operate from Barcelona in a hybrid setup and partner with senior stakeholders to protect Reuters' integrity and business interests.

Responsabilidades Counsel HR and managers on day-to-day employee and labor relations issues with practical, business-focused guidance

Advise on union and works council matters, negotiations, and dispute resolution

Coordinate multi-jurisdictional legal strategy and supervise local counsel for consistency and scalability

Develop and execute litigation and pre-litigation strategies, including budgeting and outside counsel management





Oversee employee performance, discipline, and terminations; assess severance in line with local law

Provide guidance on M&A; employment considerations, including diligence and post-closing integration

Advise on contractor classifications, pay equity, and compliance with wage-and-hour laws

Create and maintain playbooks, templates, and guidance to standardize decision-making and leverage legal tech tools

Requisitos principales Law degree and licensed to practice in Spain

5-10+ years of relevant employment law experience, in-house preferred

Strategic, proactive thinker with strong risk mitigation and business-oriented advice

Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly

Ability to work across multiple jurisdictions and fast-paced timelines

Independent, self-starter with stakeholder management and end-to-end project execution

Strong integrity, professional judgment, and alignment with Reuters core values
