Join Synmatch AI's client as a System Engineer, Managed Kubernetes with the Container Services team delivering a platform that empowers customers to deploy, manage, and update their own Kubernetes clusters while simplifying the complexity of running them at scale.

Our client's Product Engineering organization consists of approximately 110 engineers working in small scrum teams, each with end-to-end responsibility for a specific product or architecture component. Working remote-first with the team gathering in Amsterdam twice a year, the organizational structure is flat with high value placed on independence and entrepreneurship.

You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team of experienced professionals, software engineers, system engineers, a scrum master, product owner, and product management. You're not afraid to experiment, but always keep observability, scalability, stability, and reliability in mind.

Key responsibilities

- Automate Cluster Management: Automate deployment, monitoring, and management of Kubernetes clusters across compute offerings worldwide
- Evaluate New Technology: Explore, evaluate, and integrate new Kubernetes versions and components, advising on best practices and catching issues before production
- Customer & Team Support: Support customers and the development team with the Kubernetes product
- Feature Integration: Integrate new features into the product continuously
- On-Call Participation: Participate in regular on-call duty (Engineer on Duty)
- Feature Design: Collaborate with software engineers, product owner, and scrum master to design and iterate on new features
- Technology Assessment: Assess new components and technologies, recommend trade-offs,



and propose ideas that expand the offering
- Full Lifecycle Delivery: Deliver across design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and aftercare
- Documentation: Write customer-facing documentation and how-to guides
- Knowledge Sharing: Share Kubernetes expertise across the wider engineering department and support container adoption
- Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot cluster issues and contribute to runbooks for faster problem resolution

Candidate requirements

- Kubernetes Experience: Hands-on experience deploying and managing clusters in production environments
- Scale Operations: Experience operating Kubernetes at scale, managing multiple clusters across different environments
- Packaging Tools: Proficiency with Helm and Kustomize for application packaging and deployment
- GitOps Expertise: Experience with ArgoCD or similar GitOps tool, with solid GitOps, SRE, and DevOps grounding
- Certification or Equivalent Knowledge: CKA certification or demonstrable knowledge of Kubernetes networking and storage fundamentals (CNI plugins, ingress controllers, API gateway patterns, storage classes) and cluster lifecycle management with ClusterAPI
- Cloud-Native Architecture: Experience architecting cloud-native applications with resilience and scalability in mind
- Linux Administration: Solid knowledge of Linux operating systems (Ubuntu and Flatcar)



with standard system administration tasks (OS maintenance, DNS, backups)
- Communication: Good communication skills in English

Desirable (but not required)

- CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist) certification
- Shell or Python scripting skills for automation and tooling
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins) and artifact registries (Harbor)
- Knowledge of Kubernetes ecosystem tools (etcd, Traefik, Velero, Kyverno)
- Experience with Go (Golang)
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Chef, Ansible, Terraform)
- Experience with cloud platforms such as OpenStack or CloudStack
- Previous open-source contributions to Kubernetes, CNCF, or related projects
