ABOUT THE JOB

This is a hands-on job running our main e-waste line. You will spend most of your day on the floor and a good part of it in the excavator, because that cab carries the line cameras and the controls for what goes into the line. It is the best seat in the plant for seeing how the line is actually running and for doing something about it when it is not.

The line shreds whole e-waste and separates it by air, magnets and eddy current. You run it: what goes in, how fast, when it stops, and what comes off the end. Around 30 to 40 per cent of what you put in leaves as floc off the eddy current and becomes the feed for our new plastics sorting line, so what you send down is somebody else's raw material.

We are a recycler, not an office. Everyone here wears hi-vis, including the owner. If you want to run a plant from a desk, this is not it.

You report to the Operations Manager and run the e-waste processing crew.

WHAT THE JOB INVOLVES

Work out what runs each day and in what order, based on what is on the floor, what the plant can take and who you have on. Keep an eye on how the day is tracking against that and change it when you need to.

Control what goes into the line. Feed rate, what you hold back, what is not right and should not go in. Most of this you do from the excavator, and it is the part of the job that matters most.

Keep the line running properly. Quality checks, running hours, spare parts and wear items on hand, and calling maintenance in early rather than late.

Watch throughput and how clean the output is through the day, and adjust settings and who is where to keep it on target.

Keep an eye on what the line costs to run. Consumables, wear parts and power against tonnes out.

Fill in the production sheets and hand over properly at the end of the day,



to the next crew and to the Operations Manager.

Run the crew day to day. Who is doing what, showing them how to do it better, sorting the roster, and having the conversation early when someone is not pulling their weight.

Keep the area safe and tidy, and make sure the safety rules are actually followed rather than just posted.

Try things that make the line work better, and tell us what worked. When we put new gear in, help get it running and prove it does what it is supposed to.

WHAT WE ARE AFTER

ESSENTIAL

- At least five years running production in heavy industry, manufacturing, mining, materials processing or recycling, where the output and what it cost were yours.
- Experience leading a small crew, including rostering and helping people get better at the work.
- Hands-on experience running plant of this type. Shredding, screening, conveying or mechanical separation.
- Comfortable operating an excavator, skid steer and forklift. You will use all three, and the excavator most days. Australian licence requirements are sorted before you start.
- Able to plan a day's production against targets and keep accurate production records.
- Good judgement on process and quality. You notice output drifting before the numbers show it.
- Happy working on the floor in personal protective equipment every day.
- Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety in heavy industry, and disciplined about housekeeping.
- Clear spoken and written English for safety instructions, running a crew and written production reports.

NICE TO HAVE

- A degree in mechanical, industrial, process, chemical, mining or manufacturing engineering.
- E-waste, scrap metal or resource recovery experience.
- Eddy current, magnetic or air separation experience.
- Having helped install or commission new plant.
