SCIENTIST, MOLECULAR & CELLULAR PHARMACOLOGY
Vacancy: Scientist, Molecular & Cellular Pharmacology
Department: Disease Biology
Type of Contract: Permanent
Working Time: Full-time (40 hours/week)
Location: Leuven (Haasrode) — on-site presence required
Desired Start Date: As soon as possible
Reports To: Director, Endometriosis Disease Biology
Role Description
We are seeking a motivated lab-based Scientist to support and drive our drug discovery programs in endometriosis with a focus on cellular pharmacology.
In this role, you will combine hands-on experimental work with scientific thinking — designing, executing and interpreting experiments — to generate high-quality, decision-driving data. You will be expected to independently plan and manage your experimental activities over longer timeframes, ensuring efficient progression of research objectives.
You will join a team of highly motivated dynamic scientists and contribute to a collaborative environment focused on rigorous science and impactful therapeutic innovation.
This role is intended for someone with strong expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques, with attention to detail, intellectually curious, and eager to further grow into a broader role in drug discovery, including target evaluation.
This position is based in Leuven (Haasrode), with on-site presence required given the hands-on, experimental nature of laboratory work.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently design, plan, and execute well-controlled biological experiments supporting endometriosis research, target validation and mechanistic understanding.
- Manage and prioritize multiple experimental workflows, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality and interpretable data.
- Critically analyse experimental results in the context of scientific literature and project hypotheses and translate findings into clear conclusions and next steps.
- Troubleshoot experimental challenges and optimize assays to improve robustness and reproducibility.
- Clearly communicate data, insights and recommendations to project teams and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with ELN standards.
- Collaborate effectively within cross-functional project teams and with external partners/CROs to advance project objectives.
Key Competencies
- Strong sense of ownership and ability to work independently while aligning with project goals.
- Careful experimental execution, attention to detail, and commitment to data quality and integrity.
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute multiple activities delivering results in a timely manner.
- Ability to design robust experiments with appropriate controls, ensuring clear and actionable outcomes.
- Solid data interpretation skills, integrating experimental results with existing knowledge to support decision-making.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Clearly communicates complex scientific concepts and data to diverse audiences, both in writing and presentations.
Required / Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques such as mammalian and primary cell culture, qPCR/RT-qPCR, nucleic acid extraction and analysis, Western blotting, ELISA and multiplex assays, flow cytometry,
immunofluorescence and microscopy, high-content imaging, reporter assays, and transfection or gene modulation approaches; experience across a broad range of these techniques is considered a strong advantage.
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g. GraphPad Prism or similar) and structured reporting is expected.
Qualifications
- Master's or PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4+ years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, or leading academic research environments.
- Experience working with primary cells, complex cellular models, and translational research assays is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design experiments and interpret data is required.
- Prior experience in women's health, endometriosis, inflammation, immunology, fibrosis, or related disease areas is considered an advantage.
- As we are an international group, strong proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is essential for this role.
Why Join the Endometriosis Team?
You will be joining a highly motivated and experienced team of dynamic scientists and play a key role in advancing innovative therapies for women affected by endometriosis. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and fast-paced research environment where curiosity, scientific rigor, and hands-on experimentation are highly valued. It is adecuado for a scientist who enjoys experimental work, building deep expertise, and contributing directly to impactful translational research.
