As Staff Software Engineer on the Search team in Barcelona, you will architect and implement real-time search APIs and semantic retrieval systems serving millions of users. You lead engineering decisions, mentor engineers, and partner with Product and Brand stakeholders to raise search quality. You’ll embrace AI-assisted development to accelerate delivery and improve code quality. This role offers impact across products and platforms, shaping how users discover content at Dow Jones.

Responsabilidades

- Design, build, and operate Search APIs and semantic search systems delivering relevant content at scale
- Lead semantic retrieval and ranking pipelines, including embeddings, vector indexing, and relevance tuning
- Act as technical lead for the Search team, steering architecture decisions and engineering standards
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Brand partners to define search quality goals and measure impact
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance to foster learning
- Champion AI coding agents (Claude Code and similar tools) to increase development velocity and quality




- Manage infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and Chef; maintain CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins
- Containerise and deploy services with Docker and Kubernetes for reliability and efficient releases
- Own reliability and observability of Search services, define SLOs, dashboards, and incident processes
- Drive improvements in engineering processes and developer experience via awareness of industry trends

Requisitos principales

- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- Experience in designing and scaling search or information retrieval systems, including semantic search, embeddings, and vector databases
- Experience building RESTful APIs
- Experience with multi-region, multi-environment systems, CI/CD, high availability, and disaster recovery
- Experience with Terraform and Chef (infrastructure-as-code) and Jenkins (CI/CD)
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production
- Proven technical lead or senior individual contributor, guiding architecture and teams
- Experience collaborating with product managers and brand stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable solutions
- Comfort with AI-assisted development workflows
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred
