About the role Power Electronics Engineer YPlasma | Madrid, Spain YPlasma develops plasma actuators for thermal management and airflow control. Our technology generates ionic wind without moving parts, enabling new approaches to cooling electronics and improving heat transfer.

We are looking for a Power Electronics Engineer to join our team in Madrid and develop the high-voltage power supplies that drive our plasma actuators.

About the role You will design, prototype, and validate compact power converters, working across circuit architecture, custom magnetics, PCB development, and laboratory testing.

Working directly with the CTO and R&D; team, you will help turn experimental designs into reliable, manufacturable hardware. The role combines hands-on development with responsibility for efficiency, miniaturization, electrical performance, and integration with our actuators.

Key responsibilities

Design and develop high-voltage DC/AC converters for plasma actuators and capacitive loads.

Evaluate converter topologies, including resonant architectures, against efficiency, size, and reliability requirements.

Design and optimize custom transformers and magnetic components, addressing insulation, parasitic effects, and manufacturing constraints.

Develop schematics and PCB layouts, including component selection, gate drivers, sensing, and protection circuits.

Implement control strategies and waveform generation suited to actuator operating requirements.

Build, test, and troubleshoot prototypes using oscilloscopes, high-voltage probes, and other laboratory equipment.

Address EMI/EMC, thermal performance, electrical insulation, and safe operation throughout development.

Document designs, test procedures, and results, and support transfer to manufacturing.

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience designing and testing switch-mode power converters.

Strong understanding of power semiconductors, gate driving, magnetics, and converter control.

Experience with circuit simulation and schematic/PCB design tools.

Practical laboratory skills, including systematic debugging and safe electrical measurements.

Ability to take ownership of technical problems and collaborate across disciplines.

Professional working proficiency in English.

Desirable experience

High-voltage power supplies, resonant converters, or drivers for capacitive loads.

Miniature transformer design and high-voltage insulation.

GaN or SiC switching devices.

EMI/EMC testing and design for manufacturing.

Embedded control for power electronics.

Plasma systems, dielectric barrier discharge, or electrohydrodynamic applications.

What you will work on You will contribute directly to the power electronics behind YPlasma's technology, with ownership of design decisions and access to experimental feedback from our R&D; team. Your work will span early prototypes, performance optimization, and preparation for product integration.
