MEP Design Manager – Barcelona

Salter Grange is recruiting on behalf of a growing design and build contractor delivering a new data centre project in Barcelona.

We are seeking an experienced MEP Design Manager to lead and coordinate the mechanical and electrical design process from project inception through to construction and handover. This role requires a proactive leader with strong technical expertise across MEP systems, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders within fast-paced project environments. This role is currently in the pre-construction stage and needs a Spanish speaker to help drive it forward.

MEP Design Manager – Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the MEP design process throughout all project phases, from concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, public health and specialist MEP design teams, ensuring effective integration with architectural and structural disciplines.
- Develop and manage MEP design programmes aligned with overall project delivery schedules.
- Review MEP design deliverables to ensure compliance with client requirements, project specifications, applicable European standards and local regulations.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, commercial teams, procurement and site operations to ensure MEP design intent is maintained through construction.
- Manage MEP design risk registers, technical queries, RFIs and design change processes.
- Ensure MEP designs are technically robust,



practical, cost-effective, sustainable and fully buildable.
- Support MEP value engineering initiatives while maintaining project quality, performance and resilience requirements.
- Drive design coordination, BIM reviews and clash detection to ensure MEP systems are fully coordinated prior to construction.

MEP Design Manager – Requirements

- 5+ years of experience in MEP design management, building services engineering or project delivery within the construction industry.
- Experience on large-scale projects, ideally within data centres, mission-critical, pharmaceutical or industrial sectors.
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems, including their interfaces and coordination requirements.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary MEP consultant and specialist subcontractor teams across multiple countries or regions.
- Knowledge of European building regulations, MEP standards, industry standards and best practices.
- Experience working within BIM environments, including Autodesk Revit and common data environments.
- Excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Spanish-speaking with the ability to work effectively with local project stakeholders.
