Microbiome Scientist
We are looking for an experienced Microbiome Scientist Consultant to support the design, implementation, and validation of an internal molecular microbiology workflow focused on skin microbiome analysis.
The idóneo professional will bring a rare combination of hands-on laboratory experience and analytical expertise, with the ability to translate microbiome data into meaningful scientific and product development decisions.
What would your duties be?
- Design, implementation, optimization, and validation of an internal microbiome analysis workflow, ensuring scientific rigor and scalability.
- Assessment of existing laboratory and analytical capabilities, identification of technical gaps, and recommendation of solutions and best practices.
- Development and optimization of molecular microbiology protocols, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, sequencing preparation, microbial culture techniques, and troubleshooting activities.
- Creation and maintenance of SOPs, technical documentation, validation plans, and laboratory procedures.
- Analysis and interpretation of microbiome sequencing data, including quality control, data cleaning, taxonomy assignment, and biological insights generation.
- Development, adaptation, or optimization of analytical pipelines and scripting workflows when required.
- Scientific evaluation of the impact of cosmetic formulations on the skin microbiome and support for product claims substantiation.
- Definition of internal scientific standards, methodologies, and operational frameworks for microbiome-related activities.
- Knowledge transfer, mentoring, and training of internal teams to support the progressive internalization of microbiome capabilities.
- Collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, including R&D;, Innovation, Product Development, and external partners.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or MSc in Microbiology,
Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or related discipline.
- Strong hands-on experience in molecular microbiology laboratory environments.
- Proven experience working with microbiome datasets and sequencing technologies.
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and sequencing preparation.
- Experience developing SOPs and troubleshooting laboratory workflows.
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and scripting environments (R, Python or equivalent).
- Ability to independently lead technical implementation projects.
- Advanced English Level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with human or skin microbiome research.
- Previous exposure to cosmetic, dermocosmetic, biotech, pharma, or CRO environments.
- Experience with 16S rRNA, metagenomics and microbiome sequencing workflows.
- Track record building laboratory and/or analytical capabilities from the ground up.
- Consulting or freelance project experience.
