? About the role

We are looking for an AI Engineer to join a new Document Intelligence team within an international technology environment.

In this role, you will design, build, evaluate, and improve AI-powered document processing solutions used across a large international group.

You will work with LLMs, vision-language models, OCR, multimodal AI, NLP, and deterministic approaches to extract, classify, validate, and transform complex unstructured and semi-structured business documents into reliable structured data.

This is a highly hands-on role at the intersection of AI Engineering, Software Engineering, NLP, Document Intelligence, and production systems.

You will collaborate closely with Product, Data Scientists, AI Engineers, Data Engineers, Platform teams, and business stakeholders to assess technical feasibility, choose the right approach for each use case, and build scalable solutions that can move confidently into production.

? What you’ll do

? Design, build, and evaluate document processing pipelines for extraction, classification, validation, and transformation

? Develop and optimise prompts, structured outputs, validation logic, and post-processing components

? Evaluate and combine LLMs, multimodal models, OCR, VLMs, NLP techniques, and deterministic approaches depending on the problem

? Work with complex document formats, including multi-page documents, tables, line items, and inconsistent layouts

? Build reusable AI capabilities that can be applied across multiple document types and business use cases

? Create representative evaluation datasets and reliable ground-truth labels

? Develop automated evaluation frameworks and regression tests to protect performance when pipelines or model versions change

? Analyse model and pipeline failures systematically to improve accuracy, robustness, and reliability

? Write clean, maintainable, tested, and reusable Python

? Design modular AI components with clear interfaces, configuration, validation, and appropriate error handling

? Build and maintain REST APIs and services exposing AI capabilities

? Implement logging, monitoring, and observability to diagnose failures and track production performance

? Optimise AI solutions for scalability, reliability, latency,



and cost

? Collaborate with Data Engineering and Platform teams to integrate and deploy AI solutions into production environments

? Assess the feasibility, complexity, and risks of new AI use cases

? Explain technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

? Document technical decisions, assumptions, limitations, and evaluation results

? Must Have

? 3+ years of relevant professional experience in AI Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, Data Science, or a similar role

? Strong proficiency in Python

? Hands-on experience with LLMs / Generative AI

? Practical experience with prompt engineering and model evaluation

? Experience working with unstructured or semi-structured data

? Strong understanding of NLP and machine learning fundamentals

? Ability to recognise when an LLM is the right solution — and when a parser, regex, classifier, or deterministic approach is more appropriate

? Experience with REST API integration patterns

? Familiarity with production monitoring, observability, and troubleshooting

? Good software engineering fundamentals: Git, code reviews, testing, and CI/CD

? Ability to design solutions proportionately to the problem, avoiding unnecessary complexity

? Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

? Ability to communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly

? Fluent English

? Spanish is highly valued, although strong profiles with English only can also be considered

? Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field

✨ Nice to Have

? Experience with Document Intelligence / Document AI

? Hands-on experience with OCR, particularly Azure Document Intelligence

? Experience with vision-language models (VLMs) or multimodal AI applied to document understanding

? Experience with document classification, information extraction, or NER

? Experience designing and validating structured outputs from LLMs

? Familiarity with schema design and output validation





? Experience with managed AI platforms such as Azure OpenAI or Amazon Bedrock

? Experience with Docker and cloud-native development

? Experience working in AWS environments

? Experience using AI coding assistants critically and reviewing generated code

? Knowledge of production AI evaluation and regression testing

? Experience applying AI in domains such as Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Materials Efficiency, or Contact Centre Operations

? Hybrid model – 2 days onsite per week
